When I got engaged I was living in the wilderness, my mom was in Southern California or Utah and Bret was in San Francisco and planning a wedding in that mess, is well, a mess. Luckily Monica picked a great bridesmaids dress, bought 3 of them and sent them to my sister and sister-in-law.
I think that is the best system ever, find a dress you like in the right color and then no one has to spend a lot of money on a silky pastel dress they'll never wear again (nothing against pastels, I love them). Luckily, the two weddings I have been a bridesmaid in, did just that. Way to guys.

So I'm not generally a fan of Downeast clothing, but I stopped in the home section last week to buy a set of guest room sheets and saw this light, airy, pretty dress in a great, soft gray. To me it seemed like the perfect shade of gray and I instantly wanted to paint all my walls that color.
They don't really have a good pic on the website, but at that price it may be worth an "order just to see" purchase. The belt was not awesome in person (did they use seatbelt material?) but that is easily remedied. The fit was on the small side so if you're in between, size up.

you should check out asos. they have some great dresses and you can search by color. here are the gray choices:

good luck!!
I love that we have large sodies instead of bouquets.
Ugh. I still have a $400 smurf-colored satin monstrosity sitting in my closet. Which supposedly I "could wear again". Um, no. The only time that fabric is acceptable is if you're standing next to a bride. :)
I agree with two birds above. Asos has a huge selection and usually free shipping to the US. I think it runs REALLY small so check their measurement chart.
Wow, I love both ideas. Great photos :) Look at Gap, or Banana republic they tend to carry things in simple solid colors, good luck

love the big gulps in the top picture - so cute!! and the little white gloves with those dresses - perfect!
try shabby apple. their dresses aren't the least expensive for sure but they have some really cute ones that you can wear lots and lots. so lucky you get dresses you can wear again - i've been a bridesmaid 5 times and not one of the dresses could i ever wear again - except maybe for halloween or playing dress-ups...

I love that Mon has the double gulp and everyone else just has the big gulp. Must've been her special day.
I love that idea, and to see different versions of the same color is so much fun! I recently saw a gray dress that I loved! Wish I could remember.
Maybe modcloth.com or shopruche.com?
Good luck!

When you find your gray dress you should consider a gray hat like kate's mom. It was fantastic. I love the big gulp pic. One of my favorite pics is me
getting dressed before my wedding sipping on a diet coke
OMG, I love that big gulp picture!
