What's My Age Again?

A year ago, an 80 year old woman in my church congregation moved out of the state. I wasn't able to help her pack, but all of the ladies that packed her up decided that I should be the recipient of all of her unwanted clothing. I was happy that they saved me a trip to the thrift store, where I would have probably ended up buying the items. But, I was a little bit surprised that it was that obvious that I dress like an 80 year old woman. Whatever their reason for giving me the clothes, I was grateful.

Both the top and skirt are from Pearl (80 year old woman). I can't decide though what is off about this outfit? Do I need a belt? High heels? Something feels off.

It was extremely windy so I decided not to look at the camera. Also, there were tons of people walking on the path behind Bret and I felt suupperrr awkward.
Shirt and Skirt: Pearl Shoes: TJ Maxx

What would you change about this? What could I add to make it work better?

That's quite a funny story! I really like the blouse and the skirt. I would maybe lose the pearls and wear them with something else. Heels would look good, but quite honestly, I wouldn't wear them so I'm not going to suggest them.
Maybe unbutton some of the top buttons and wear a nice little tanktop underneath. Instead of the pearls you could wear another, more funky, necklace. What do you think?

The key to wearing old people's clothes is not to wear them at the same time. You should pair the skirt with a nice tank top in black or such and make it pop with heels. The top should be worn with sexy skinny jeans and boots. That works.

And lose the pearls. It can work with other outfits, but not this one. I love the place you took the photos, gorgeous.

I think the top and pearls would look great with a pair of skinny jeans and heels, but then that's probably my solution to everything ;) xxx

I think adding a belt would help, but I also agree that pairing the blouse with jeans and the skirt with a funky printed top or tank would work better than pairing both pieces at the same time. Heels aren't a necessity, but maybe some strappy sandals?

I would belt it, (which is my fix-all these days, it seems) and I would be careful of where I wore that skirt. The flowy-ness of both pieces seems to take a bit of your great figure away. Maybe it would be better belted and up a couple of inches? I would also probably wear a chunkier necklace.

These are great pieces, though! I'm glad you shared the story behind them!

I just love that color combination! I think I would maybe pull up the skirt a bit, slap on a belt, and call it good. I also agree with 'I Am Megan' - maybe with a pair of cute jeans. You look wonderful, though, no matter what.

I love both pieces, but I agree with the others that this top would be great with something fitted (and vice versa for the skirt). I like to contrast a more flowing item with something that's completely different. That's awesome that you inherited the clothes! When my grandma's cousin passed I got several AMAZING pairs shoes from her, but alas my feet grew after having kids and the shoes are now on someone else's feet!

thanks so much for following! i was just looking around your blog and im LOVING what i see... so i am a new follower of you as well :)

as far as this outfit goes... the skirt and the top are both great peices but i wouldn't wear them together myself... i picture the top either with ankle length skinnies and heels or with high waisted trouser jeans and heels.

and with the skirt i would do a more form fitting skirt and a fun, bright necklace.

thats just how i'd do it... lovin the inherited clothes though!

What a cute story, I love that you've inherited Pearl's clothes. Firstly, I adore the outfit it has the perfect touch of slouchy, which is so current and on trend for this season.

And what would I change? I would add heels, and maybe a longer layered chain necklace (mixed metals), just to give the outfit some added fashion pop. Hope you're having a fabulous day!! xx veronika

That is so awesome! I agree with other commenters, maybe 1 Pearl item per outfit? But otherwise, it looks like you majorly scored. That red skirt in particular is so so so cute.

i think it's the proportions. all great pieces and i am fully i favor of the pearls too. but you are so long waisted that the dropped waist gives you more of a wide shape. if you untucked and belted it higher, your proportions would be more flattering. and some heels. but, again, gorgeous pieces. lucky you.

That is one fashionable old lady! I love this outfit, and I think it'd be cute to wear the skirt a bit higher on the waist, belt it, and add some cute sandals! It would make the outfit look totally different, but with the same key pieces. Beautiful!

Nice! I agree--something about the proportions looks off. I think heels would be a great start!

I agree with heidiluxe... maybe untuck the shirt and add a belt. I also like the shirt with skinny jeans idea. I love the story and LOVE both items. Total score! =)

Nice city look, I think you don't need any accessories, the clean lines of this blouse makes me think of the minimalistic trend.

And the skirt is the main colour, so a neutral pair of wedge will look great!

You could also make the skirt sit on your waist instead of hips, so it'll accentuate your waist! xoxo

Can't believe an 80 year old had a skirt like that. You should try a belt next time.

I agree that you should wear each piece separately. I think that blouse would look great with some skinny jeans, belt, and cute flats. The skirt would be great worn high waisted and with a belt :)

I would roll up the sleeves on the shirt. But I'm not sure I'm someone anyone should be taking advice from
