and just like that the 80's are back

I have a serious weakness for thrift store dresses. I realize that I look kind of like an 80's mom here, but they are so comfortable with that elastic waste and never more than $6.99, how can I resist? This is the latest one I found and I can't decide if I should hem it about 2-3". I mean still to my knee, but I hate when things hit me mid calf. Would you hem it?

Dress: Thrift Store Belt: Forever 21 Shoes:?
I realize the shoes are not helping my 80's mom look, but I couldn't go out barefoot and nothing else I had worked. I'm considering getting some type of summer sandal/cute wedge. Have you found any cute sandals or wedges anywhere lately for a good price?

Aww you are right. Mid calf is as good a place as Sizzler. It looks good on u though. U must be tall? There is nothing better than a thrifted granny dress. Nothing. U could always cut the sleeves off, shorten it, or wear a shirt over it. So many possibilities!

DEFINITELY hem! It will bring it into this decade but still have an awesome vintage vibe. Maybe just a simple white espadrille wedge would work here. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=55150&vid=1&pid=831502
Love it!

i love thrift store dresses! and i agree, this needs a few inches taken off so it hits at the knee!

I like the dress! I would definitely hem it at the knee and then pair it with some cute espadrille wedges.

i would take a few inches off, and pair it with these: http://www.target.com/Xhilaration-Teanna-Heeled-Sandals-Tan/dp/B003WW1426/ref=br_1_21?ie=UTF8&id=Xhilaration%20Teanna%20Heeled%20Sandals%20Tan&node=3429501&searchSize=30&searchView=grid3&searchPage=1&sr=1-21&qid=1308074207&rh=target_com_primary_color-bin%3ABrown|style_name%3AHeeled&searchBinNameList=style_name%2Ctarget_com_shoe_size-bin%2Clifestyle-bin%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1

i got a GREAT deal for shoes: 3 for $15 at head over heels in utah. im not sure where you live, but maybe there are head over heels where you're from. a cute tan wedge that matches your belt would be cute!

Uh, why bother paying $6.99 per dress when you can just dig into mom's old closet and wear some of those gems. My first instinct was to tell you to burn the dress...but after closer examination I decided I like it. I agree with your instinct to hem the dress--I think it will make it more flattering. Also, you might consider taking a little length off the sleeve to make the top less boxy.

Heming it would be cute but the midi look is in!

You look adorable! Love this dress! I would probably wear it like this this summer and then hem it next summer :)

I would agree that hemming it would be the best. I also think the sleeves need to be shortened. The shape it has now is loosing your gorgeous figure. I think it would add a nicer feminine touch.

Fun color but I agree that hemming would make it even cuter!

Yes it defiantly needs a few inches off - and it would looks so nice with some sandals.

Surprisingly, Payless seems to be making some amazing shoes (wedges inlcuded!) lately! Check them out and let me know if you have any luck!

I would take the shoulder pads out with a seam ripper (that's what I do) and yes definitely hem it :) spice it up with colorful jewelry too to make it younger :) definitely get a colorful shoe!

to be quite honest, it looks like an old lady dress. This dress is too big on you, esp in the arms. hemming it wouldn't make a difference, seriously, its too big on you

i am voting for hemming! i feel like an 80s style dress can be rocked if the hem or sleeve length is updated.

I really don't like it Whit! It looks way too big and old lady. Not flattering one bit. Especially the belt. But that's just my opinion!

Is that the same Phil and Holly that I'm cousins with?

Must be! I actually agree, as is, I don't like the dress on you. I would take out the shoulder pads, take it in at the armpits and maybe shorten it a bit. I figure if Phil and Holly can give their honest opinion, I can too, right?

By the way, your blog is my favorite. Finally someone who is blogging with a real sense of humor!

Oooh, pretty! I think yes, hemming it a bit and pairing it with a summery wedge sandal would be perfect! I usually find good deals on www.6pm.com. Have fun shopping!

Definitely hem! and I would also hem the sleeves in to a bit. I would wear a pump shoe with this dress.

yep!

I say either way. I'm sort of partial to the "tea length" but to the knee would look great too!
Love me some thrify dresses!!

I would probably hem it, but I'm not a fan of tea length anyway. It's a super cute dress! I love the color and pattern! Maybe try wearing a belt at an empire-waist height (nice way of saying under your boobs) since that dress is kinda baggy. It would really show off your awesome figure.
