Reader Submission

Monica and I were first neighbors with Brittany, in a duplex. She then became our roommate and then... my sister-in-law! I could not have asked for a better roommate turned family member. Brittany is one of the funniest and most genuine people I have ever met. Oh and on top of being a great person, she is a fantastic mom. Here's Britt:

Initially when I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I was ecstatic! That is until I realized that I was due in the middle of September. Not good. Two reasons: 1) When I was pregnant with my first, and at my biggest, it was the winter in a very cold and snowy climate. I was never too hot, and I could layer and hide how fat I had gotten with all of my winter maternity clothes. It was great! 2) Since, I have moved, and not only does it not snow, but it gets SMOKIN' HOT in the summer! I'm talking above 100 degrees! So as I've grown, and I use that term very lightly, I have no maternity clothes for my new scalding climate. I have been desperately trying to find clothes that are comfortable, that are loose and cool (like temperature wise). Not to mention that will hopefully make me feel somewhat cute or attractive during my "swollen" state. Skirts/dresses pose a problem being that I have already have a 2 year old and babysit other kids quite frequently.

So, this brings me to my questions that I need to "Ask the duplex". Are gauchos socially acceptable? Can pregnant women only pull them off because they're pregnant and everyone feels sorry for them, but in actuality no one should be wearing them?
I tried to pose so you could see that I wasn't wearing a skirt. A common misconception when wearing gauchos.
I once heard that when you finally submit and start wearing sweats all day, everyday, that it is a sign that you have given up on life. Are gauchos making that same statement? I know my husband wishes I wouldn't have stumbled upon these comfy gems.

Shirt: From my Aunt (Nordstrom I think) Gauchos: Old Navy - Maternity (online) Shoes: Payless (BOGO baby) Headband and ring: (Forever 21) Undershirt: Shade
Do I look lazy? Do they make me look bigger than I am? I need your honest opinions. Don't just say... "Your pregnant and it's a beautiful thing. You can wear whatever you want, like a potato sack even." I need honesty. Thanks!

I think the gauchos really are acceptable while pregnant. They kind of look like a skirt and I think they are one of the few things that seem comfortable but are not sweats.

I'm not sure where you are living, but there are usually stores for gently used baby items that also carry gently used Maternity clothes. I got a ton of pants/capris/skirts/dresses/tops for a fraction of the cost. And they all looked fairly new. I'm talking, I paid $6 for a maternity pair of khakis from Gap and $11 for a dress that is normally $40 at Motherhood Maternity.

As far as your question, I think Gauchos are acceptable when you are pregnant as long as you just don't go out with your husbands T-Shirt on, then you might as well be wearing sweats. :)

I think gauchos are totally acceptable and you make them look super cute! There are tons of new styles for pregnant woman so you don't always have to wear sweats. :) Maybe even try a maxi dress. They're amazing first of all, but they're super comfortable, go all the way to the ground so you don't have to worry too much while you're chasing kiddos, and they're adorable- all in one! :)

i say yes, you are pregnant and you can wear whatever you want. dress these up with even a plain shirt and a SUPER fun necklace and some cute gladiator sandals and you will be super cute all summer.
and b. maxi dresses could be your new bff. you don't even need to get them in the maternity section...buy a half tee to wear underneath and the length will keep you from any odd mishaps watching the chitlens throughout the day...and keep a little breeze where you need it! good luck sister.

I don't like gauchos on anyone (sorry!). If you're already self-conscious about your growing belly, why make your legs look bigger too? I personally would stick with jeans, tasteful spandex, or a [fitted] skirt on bottom (although maxi dresses are cute too...)

I say take advantage of the maxi-dress trend! A pregnant belly easily fits under most of them. They're everywhere, and you're not limited to the "maternity" styles that are usually way less cute than regular styles. With the added length, you won't need to worry about exposing too much leg with little ones scrambling all over you.

no on the gauchos. i put mine on the other day {and i'm not even pregnant} and took them off, stat. that's when i vowed to be a lot more cautious with the trends i follow. haha, what was i thinking?? ok so where i live it gets REALLY hot in the summer and i was pregnant with TWINS in the summer, so i can hopefully help you out. i lived in: liz lange t-shirts, pre-pregnancy capris {with a beband, rubber band and a long shirt}, forever 21 maternity line skinny jeans and maxi dresses. i refused to spend a lot of money on maternity clothes because i thought - "what's the point? i may never be pregnant again!" so i also stretched out some of my pre-pregnancy clothes or bought some of the same stuff, just a size or two bigger. cause maternity stuff ain't cheap. i don't have normal skin tone looking legs like you do, so i didn't wear shorts. haha. good luck!

I'm not a huge fan of gauchos. I used to wear them EVERY day a few years ago. Now I only have one pair and I only wear them to sleep in.

I would suggest maxi dresses like someone else, or how about tunics and leggings? Or dresses and leggings?

Either way, you truly are beautiful and I think you'll look fantastic in whatever you choose to wear!

you make the gauchos look cute, but i would wear them sparingly...when i was pregnant i wore a lot of leggings with cute tops! but i live in texas where it's burning in the summer and i know that leggings aren't always the answer. what about cute bermudas? they are comfy and practical for chasing after a 2 year old.

If you don't want to do gauchos, you could do a longer version - the palazzo pant is really big right now. But I always think flowy skirts are the comfiest thing to wear, pregnant or not!! There are tons of great options out there right now. Either way, you look great.:)

I think as long as the rest of the outfit is dressy its fine. I think u look cute. I loved mine when I was prego and cared way more about my comfort than the critical eye of a young something who has no kids or understanding ;)

i say no to the gauchos... i too wore them almost daily several years ago. but the trend has come and gone... and i honestly dont think they were that flattering on anyone.

your growing belly is ADORABLE!! i think you should go for dresses (long or short) or a top like you have on with skinnies or leggings.

Uh, I haven't had a child and even I think if you are pregnant you are allowed to wear anything that you want. Pregnancy is one of those times when it is all about function over form.

You look cute and should wear those gauchos until they are threadbare and then burn them and never look back.

The more your belly grows, the harder it is to find things that are comfortable to wear. So I would say Yes to wearing them around the house, running an errand, or the days you just dont feel like having anything tight on your tummy. Love the shirt!

I think the rules are the same as for the non-pregnant. If you look cute in it, wear it. You look cute in them, so wear them! I don't think you look big in them, and I don't think they look lazy at all. Definitely NOT in the pajama pants/sweats category. Rock them, lady!

I think that knit gauchos are only cute when you're pregnant and I relied on them heavily both times when I was. As long as you have a cute fitted top and shoes it's fine.

Tunics and leggings were also my friends. Oh, and I had one black Liz Lange dress that I could layer the heck out of - it fell right below the knee so even if I was chasing my 2 year old I wouldn't give anyone an unintended show.

Sorry, but I hate them. They are ugly.

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I'm
assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I'm not very internet smart so I'm not 100% positive. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Appreciate it

Very good blog you have here but I was curious if you knew
of any discussion boards that cover the same topics discussed here?
I'd really love to be a part of group where I can get advice from other experienced people that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Many thanks!
