Hi Everyone. Me again. I'm sorry to monopolize the front page of ATD, but I have another fashion question that I could really use some roommate advice on.
I don't typically pay much mind to fashion rules. I'm comfortable with mixing non-matching patterns, I'll wear navy and black together any day of the week, and I'll wear a winter white. But for some reason there is one fashion rule that keeps me wondering. It's the policy of matching your shoes and belt. Like this outfit below.
I get it that it looks put together to have my belt and shoes match in the same shade of camel. And I like this belt with the outfit, and that's why I more often default to it. But I also like to have options.
What if I wanted to change up my accessories and wear this other belt with it?

Would you wear it even the brown in the shoes and belt don't match? How do you feel about matching your belt and shoes? What about if one of your accessories is a color? Does that change the ability to match and wear?

Such a femenine a fresh look you look effortless chic. I will wear the belt and shoes even if they don't match I think makes the outfit more interesting rather than a perfect simetrical and colour match one :) xx
ugh i always feel like i have this issue. i think both work nicely - you could do either.

See...both outfits look great and I don't think anyone would really think much of the change. Personally, I try to opt for the first option. That's just my anal-retentiveness when it comes to "the rule." But I think the second look is fabulous and I really love that belt!
I think you look great, Jana! Gorgeous skirt!
I usually try to match things, so I would go with outfit number one but the second one looks great, too.
i think both options look great, but i really like the belt in the second pic. i don't think the shoes have to match exactly especially since they are all neutral colors.
See, when I look at both the outfits, I think the ones with the matching shoes and belt look better. BUT I rarely ever match my shoes and belts because I'm only just starting my belt collection. And I think that the 2nd photo with the non-matching shoes and belt is STILL really cute!
Typically I am the type that would say to match...but I really like the second belt! I say go with whatever works. Or find shoes to match the second belt if the mismatch bothers you :)
I think it depends on the outfit... for this one, I really love the first look. Very European looking...so pretty. :)
BOTH options are great! I rarely match the belt and shoes. Keeping them in the same color family is good enough for me!
i am all about mixing and matching :) I think there are certain times where it just won't work...like the outfit above probably wouldn't look as cute with a big black belt, but both of those belts are awesome! I also think if my belt doesn't necessarily match my outfit i try to add an accessory to match the belt :)
I think both options work, but the mismatched belt looks fresh and new. However, I do think that men still need to match their belt and shoes. :)
Holy cow you look smokin'! I debate this question all the time...in this case, I like the matchy- matchy the best.
I like the second look. I almost always prefer for things to "go" rather than match. Be glad you're not a man and run with the mismatched shoes and belt!
I hate when things are too "matchy-matchy"--so I say, wear whatever belt you want! It just has to "go", not necessarily match. :)

I don't think it needs to match. Although they both look good :)

I tend to go matchy-matchy (i.e.: matching belt and shoes... and purse if possible). But I do agree that in some occasions you can mix different colors between shoes and belts and still rock the look. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable so I'd play it safe, unless the shoes are, say, silver or gold, in which case I would wear a black/white belt with the silver shoes and a brown one with the gold shoes. Just to tone the gold and silver down.
If you feel comfortable not going completely matchy-matchy and trying something a little bit more daring, go ahead! Who's to tell you what you should wear? :)

its up to you, but I like the second belt! fashion is all about thinking outside of the box and pushing your own fashion boundaries :) plus it's high fashion to not match ;)
My Dad the Engineer used to share his RULES.
"Clothes make you street legal." That was the big one. Are all the important/modest bits covered? Out the door with you.
I prefer the non-matching belt/shoes. And I must respectfully disagree to the above comment about men being required to match belt and shoes. In a suit, yes. In anything else, not required as long as it looks good.
great skirt
love the skirt so much!! i want it! : )
I think matching shoes & belt is an old fashion rule that needs to die. I try not to match them, because mismatched is so much more pleasing to the eye. Especially if you're trying to highlight your shoes or your belt. In the second picture, I like that your belt really stands out, and your shoes blend in because they're nude. It adds more drama to the look. Therefore, I choose option #2. However, you're so cute that you look great both ways!
Ladies evening belts can make any outfit look gorgeous and get you noticed in a crowd. No mater how simple a dress is; it can look beautiful if you have the right kind of belt to go with it. The more elegant belts can have a silver and gold color but you can also find many sober looking belts. Belts can be worn with any kind of outfit ranging from jeans to evening wear. These accessories can be found in many colors and materials and you can also buy them at any decent store or online too.
