Wolf's Tooth

You'd think I would learn after two years of marriage to avoid asking my husband fashion questions.  Especially since I have the Duplex now.  But, I still seem to forget that he is not Whitney.  Take yesterday morning for example.

Me: "Hey Rhett, what should I wear today?"

<long pause>

Me: "It's just so tough because I need to look professional...but it is so dang hot outside, I can't wear pants and a cardigan...but, then you go into my office and it is like 2 degrees in there and I want to be wearing pants and a cardigan...but then I have to go back outside and its hot again out there....I go from sweaty to freezing twelve times...and I still have to look nice....and then...." (My life is really hard.  And, I sound really smart when I talk)

Rhett: "I dunno...Why don't you just wear that Wolf Tooth skirt?"

shirt: TJ Maxx    skirt: Target     shoes: Urban Outfitters
(and, yes I have two pair of T-strap black shoes)

So, I took Rhett's suggestion.  I wore my houndstooth skirt.....I mean, Wolf's Tooth skirt.  At least he caught on to the "tooth"part, right?

My question today has nothing to do with how you feel about houndstooth because no matter what any of you say, I will love houndstooth 'til the day I die.

But, If you remember, I struggle wearing stark white.  After I put this outfit on I wondered if I could wear a stark white top with a skirt that has cream in the pattern.  I was already late for school so I couldn't debate back and forth or try to accessorize it to make it better.  But what do you think? Can you wear stark white with cream?

Love the top. Love the Wolf's Tooth skirt. But not sure if I love the stark white with cream combo here!

What a funny conversation! well, looks professional and chic to me. The cream with white thing doesn't bother me at all.

I think it depends. If it looks intentional and not like you couldn't tell the difference, then it's fine. Like combining black and brown, it's great when it's done intentionally and the shades are different enough.

I think with the black in the WOLF tooth skirt, this works. I might've added a brightly colored necklace but since you didn't have time, I think this looks nice the way it is!

I think I am with you, Anonymous! The more I look at it, the more I don't like it.

Love, love that skirt!! And that blouse is absolutely gorgeous, the collar detail is fabulous. As for wearing white & cream together? I personally don't however, I think that it is looks lovely here.

You could also warm up the blouse by adding some creamy layered pearls ...to balance it out. Hope your having a fab day! xx veronika

How did I not know you were married? Well, I didn't! That's a hilarious conversation and one I'd probably have with my hubby. I think the outfit looks great, but I'm with ya. I always worry about the cream/white problem.

I ask my husband similar questions. I forget he could care less. He really doesn't understand my obsession.

I'm not sure if i like the white with cream combo.....I think I would have opted for a colored top to wear with this skirt. It's kind of hard to see how certain things look together. I mean if you see this post http://sofashionistica.blogspot.com/2011/06/making-it-work.html....I totally failed in my choice of top. Oh well, we live and learn!

i didn't think anything of the white when i first saw the picture because i was so focused on the amazingly awesome skirt! but now that i'm thinking about it, i'm not so sure about the white. i think it probably would have looked better with a color, or maybe with some cream/black necklaces to tie everything together. but i promise no one else would be looking at this outfit with such a critical eye. i only did because you asked me to!

I really like the outfit.. While I do think a color shirt would make the outfit pop a little more (um, mustard yellow would look great in my opinion!) seeing you wear the white and cream combo makes me a little more brave to try it out too!

eh it could pass if someone wasn't staring at it like this, but not really.

I don't know anything about fashion, but I never stark white and cream together.

Yup, that's about how fashion conversations with boys go :)

I love cream and white together, and I think especially because it's with black, it's good. But I love tone-on-tone of any color. You look great!

I definitely think you can wear stark white with cream, so long as the cream is partnered with another color. Which you've done!

I basically have the same conversation with my husband about once a week. I'll ask if he likes something I'm wearing, and he'll say, "I don't know...it looks kind of weird." My retort is usually, "Well, your not a fashion blogger, so what do you know." Boys!

Haha! Sounds like my husband when I ask him for fashion advice! I usually shy away from white and cream together, but I DO think you look fabulous in stark white. So wear away!

that amazing skirt is from Target??! wow. so cute. I will also love houndstooth till the day I die :) it looks good in any form. Anyway, I just wore a slightly cream cardi with a black and White polka dot skirt. I think its fine if it doesn't clash too much. You could wear any color with this skirt though. I'd choose mustard yellow but that's me :)

wolf's tooth! very funny! i like the white and cream. i don't think it looks odd at all.
as an alabama fan i love it, and i DO think you are very brave wearing houndstooth in knoxville. doesn't that go against the rules in tennessee?

Ro said...

rhett, you are hilarious!! sounds like something johne would say!!! i didn't even notice that the skirt was cream until i read your description, so it looks great and isn't noticabley different at all!

lori said...

while i think white and cream are fine together... i would suggest maybe wearing a bright colored skirt with that skirt (at least for summer since houndstooth is a little more on the winter side, i think that would make it more summer-appropriate.

The outfit is adorable BUT I think Rhett's description is even more adorable!

I did not notice the color difference until you mentioned it. Grab a bight cardi for the freezing office and the white and cream will not be next to each other and even less noticeable.

My kid mentioned that Wolf's Tooth might be really big hounds' tooth.
