1-2-3-4, Roll It Up a Little More

Have you guys seen this tie-your-shirt-in-a-knot trend that is going around?  Oh, you haven't? Well let me provide you with a visual from the beloved F21 website.

So, that's what I'm talking about.  The Knot Tie.  And if Forever 21 is doing it, we all should be doing it.  Right?

Well, since I am always looking for more ways to incorporate my 6'1'' husband's wardrobe into my own, I thought this might be a nice alternative to my usual trick of belting his oversized shirts.

Necklace: 5 old necklaces intertwined into 1 Shirt: my husband's
Camisole: DownEast Basics Jeans: Gap Shoes: Target

So, you may or may not be thinking one of the following:
  1. Monica, stop wearing your husband's clothes.
  2. You look like a cowboy in gingham and flared jeans, but with some pearls and a bun.
  3. Please stop furrowing your brow in your pictures.
But, let's not focus on the obvious here.  Let's get back to the Knot Tie.
  1. Is the Knot Tie a lame trend that no one should participate in?
  2. Do you Knot Tie?

LOVE how you styled that shirt! i like the idea of tying my shirt but i get worried about showing too much skin-- a lower knot is the perfect solution. xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams

I do this all the time! You look so cute!

Adorable! I knot-tie sometimes, to break up all the belting a little. It's a nice change.

Your husband has cute clothes - I love this shirt! My husband is a big dude - like 7 inches taller than me and twice my weight - otherwise I would try this out with his shirts :)

It's so hard not to furrow your brows, especially when it's bright out! I'm glad I'm not the only one! I love this look on you, the knot tie with the pop of yellow underneath looks fantastic!

i would not have even thought about the tie knot trend UNTIL NOW. i personally think that the midriff bearing tops went out with the 90s... BUT you have done it ohhh so well!!

seriously. i loveee the blue gingham and the little bit of yellow poking out underneath. unfortunately i dont think my hubbys clothes would look as flattering on me or i would definitely try a version of this.

So cute! I love this! I haven't done the knot tie in about 10 years (a la a Cruel Girl top and Rocky Mountain jeans - bahaha), but I would definitely try it again. I also like that your midriff is not showing. The yellow cami peeking out is delightful! :)

Tiffany said...

You are just adorable! I'm too chunky to do the knot tie, but I would totally do it.

Tiffany said...

You are absolutely adorable! I love the peek of yellow under the blue gingham. I have a hard time styling my gingham shirt (maybe because it's red and screams picnic table), but I may try something like this. I love it!

Super cute!

Yours looks much better than the picture. It's not for me, though. It makes me feel old to re-do a trend I did more than 10 years ago. LOL

I LOVE this! I love the little bit of yellow peeking out from under the button-up, and the wide-leg jeans are PERFECT!

I've done the knot tie recently, a chambray shirt over a black dress, and I really liked it! It was a little warm for a summer outfit but I might try again in the fall. :)

I think this trend will be short-lived, but I'd say do it a few times before it dies out! It's cute on you and always fun to dig into other people's wardrobes for a change!

I love it on you!

It isn't for me though - I'm trying to hide the post-baby/c-section pooch not show it off haha

Oh, hey there. said...

I was totally just talking last night about how I wanted a shirt like that!! So cute.

You look SO cute! I will definitely have to try this with some of my husband's shirts! :)

I Love the knot! I want to try!

LOVE your whole outfit! You did the tie the knot thing so well with your wide legged jeans.

I have not tried the knot tie yet, but have been wanting to do it. Maybe seeing you will be my kick in the butt to do it sooner rather than later!

Audrey said...

It looks really cute! I like that you put a yellow shirt underneath for modesty's sake...unlike the Forever 21 pic haha.

Haha. Great post! I think I may have had a knot tie shirt when I was about 5 yrs old. Otherwise, I'll leave it to the pin-ups.

I like this trend but not how F21 has it. I think lower without a belly showing is much classier. You wore it well.

Dude! Monica, you seriously crack me up!!! I laugh so hard every time I read your posts. I can hear your voice in my head saying the things you say. It's hilarious! I think the knot tie looks great, however, I think only certain people can pull it off. You look great! I love the outfit. And I LOVE those jeans!

I definitely do it! I absolutely love how it looks, and how flattering it can make an oversize shirt. You look lovely!

You look so hot! I love that shirt :)
I've never done the knot tie before but it looks great on you!!

Van said...

I'm a fan of gingham, as you know, it has appeared in my last few posts. It looks totally glam-o-fied with pearls and a side bun. Definitely like the lower knot. Your whole ensemble feels fresh, but classic. (IMHO, the F21 cropped knot already looks out-dated). Lookin' fly, ma dear! Yes. Fly.

I think this look is great on you! I love chambray shirts and they are perfect for this!

I think you rock the look perfectly! The Forever 21 model, on the other hand? No. No, no, no.

I like how you kept the knot lower and ended not looking "country" or "oh, hi, I'm in love with 1995". Instead, you look adorable. Love the pearls, too.

:)

You are so creative! I love it! I agree that the F21 picture looks outdated, but I like the way you made it look classy!
Thanks for the idea!

what a great idea. The knot with the tummy exposed is....lame. but with a shirt underneath is genius. good work girlfriend!

i totally knot-tied over a maxi dress last week on my blog. i need a biggger shirt. i like it, i think it's kind of carefree and fun.

Kristin said...

Hah. I'm totally with you on this! I was on the fence about it but I think it can be really cute when done right (not so cute when done what F21 did). I like it best over a dress or a high-waisted skirt. Here's how I wore it: http://longenecker-storyshort.blogspot.com/2011/06/first-day-of-summer.html

I think you look great! But I didn't know this was new. My hairstylist dressed like that several months ago and I immediately copied it because she looked adorable. Except we also mix patterns, plaid multi-colored shirt with a polka dot cami underneath (or other cami that 'goes'). Laura

It's a lame trend.... but I still participate in the knot tie! Husband can't wear my clothes but I can wear his? Win win. And we all know our lads think we're sexy when wear their clothes.

I like the trend. I have a sheer yellow blouse that I am fond of tying up pairing with jean shorts and my bikini. I feel like it's the one trend that allows me to show a bit of my tummy without looking too trashy :)

Kelley said...

Personally I'm not big on the knot tie trend, but you pull it off a lot better than the Forever 21 model. :)

DaniellaBella said...

Perfect! I dig the little pop of yellow that sets off the blue so beautifully. And wearing a man's shirt is comfy and gives you that squirmy warm heart feeling!!

me too I thought the knot tie is lame until I saw on some bloggers and I liked it and now I m addicted to it,so be careful!tomorrow you might be too :)

Um hellooo you are adorable! This husband-stolen shirt is exactly like a J. Crew version I never seem to be able to get my hands on! (Sold on? None in my size? Forgot to check "1" at checkout? I'm cursed!) Either way, I love it + I am so down with the knot-tie!

I like knotted shirts. I think they're a great alternative when you aren't feeling the belt and still want to define your waist. I think your husband's shirt works very well as an oversized shirt. I constantly liberate things from my husband's closet. =D

Erica said...

I keep thinking about doing the knot tie because I see people like yourself look fabulous in it, but then get afraid that doing so will catapult me back to 1995 and to a young Erica with frizzy hair with glasses, knot tying her dad's t-shirts so she could stay modest but still look like Kelly Capowski on Saved By the Bell.

On an unrelated note, a friend of mine knows you IRL, which made me feel like I knew you IRL. Which made me smile.

I LOVE this look. It's such a great take on the wide leg jeans trend. And how clever to intertwine some old necklaces to achieve the effect of a cluster of pearls. (As I type this, I'm staring at my jewelry to see if I can do the same...)

And the tied knot looks darling in this outfit. I think it helps to create the perfect proportion between the jeans and shirt.

Darling outfit! Totally adoring it - I love gingham and I think its totalyl okay to borrow the hubby's clothes...just think of it as an extended closet ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your lovely comments!

I do the knot-tie once in awhile.Living in the Southern area it gives me a cute Southern, ranch girl feel without going overboard.

Thumbs up from me.
