I would have never thought to put bright blue with black and white
stripes, but YOU my dear roommates knew! I got a lot of comments here
that I should look at bright blue fabric. I was then at Beverley's and
low and behold there was bright blue fabric for $1.99 for a yard and a
half. Good crafting vibes were in the air. (I still haven't hemmed or
ironed it, so don't judge, I was just so excited to be semi-done).
It
took about two hours for the whole thing... I seriously thought I was
going to be done around Christmas time, but it really is easy (and now
if you decide to do it and make your own shirtdress and you have any
questions, you can email me! I can give you my novice sewing advice).
Look how well I can dance in it. Good things are in store for this dress.
So, I don't have a fashion question because you guys already answered it!
I do have a camping question though, uhh kinda of the opposite of fashion. I LOVE to camp. Backpack, car camp, setting up a tent in the yard, any of it and all of it. My questions are:
1. Where is your favorite place you have ever camped?
2. What are some good things you pack to eat while camping? Bret and I are headed on a
little camping trip and I need to pack some meals and snacks, what do you like to pack?

Wow, pretty outfit !!!
Congratulations on your sewing! It looks fabulous :) well done - I'd love to try something like this but I'm so wonky I'd probably sew my sleeve to my ankle or something :p
In regards to camping - snacks like crackers/rice cakes/ cereal bars are a lifesaver - they can work as a meal if they need to + are great for easy energy if you're trecking around :)

Congrats on the sewing! It looks fantastic! And the shoes are great too :)
We make walking tacos when we camp. Fritos in the mini bags, hamburger and cheese. And of course you can't forget the Smores!
Congrats on sewing! I am still on the semi-straight lines too but have yet to attempt a dress! You look great!
this outfit is sooo cute! love the skirt and shirt! sooo cute!

Great DIY! I am really impressed! I love the bright blue and stripes! Good call! Have a great weekend!
(I'm a really unprofessional camper, so sorry, no words of wisdom here)
o wow! congrats girl! the skirt looks great. i have no camping tips..im not super outdoorsy! i do like to canoe tho :) xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams
This is such a great idea, I'm going to have to get some sort of instructions from you....cause i'll need them--sewing is not my strong point! & for camping, we just went the other day and brought chili [either homemade and heated at the fire, or canned] and I don't know if you eat meat, but costco sells pretty incredible chicken hot dogs that we used to bring.
Soooo adorable!! I am also wearing something a sewed today- a new blouse that I also just blogged about! haha. My favorite spot to camp is Lake Cachuma near Santa Barbara, CA. My family has been going there every year since we were all little. Good times!
The dress is gorgeous!! And so is your cute dancing pose. =)
I haven't camped in ages... Not since we had the kids. We like to bring the normal camping food: hotdogs, marshmallows, chips of some sort. And then for breakfast, bacon and eggs over the campfire. I think that's my favorite part of camping. =)
Oh, and thanks for the sweet comment on my blog! =) I'm lucky that one of my best friends is also my hair stylist, so I just let her go to town on my hair and do whatever she wants. lol The little pixie-ish cut I have is the result.
2 and a half hours and you made this beautiful skirt...love the color and it looks great paired with stripes!!

you look so cute! I'm certainly no camping expert - I've only been once. But for me, it was all about the s'mores and burgers/hot dogs!
So cute!! Good job!! Camping- I'm all about making it easy, hobo dinners, smores and hotdogs. Tahoe was my favorite camping spot, there was the lake, awesome bike trails, and they had showers and flushing toilets.
Awesome dress! I've actually never been camping! EEK! I know! I really need to do this. I've heard that trail mix and granola bars are essential!
Lovely, you did a great job! I may have to try this as my next sewing project.
As for camping maybe you should bring baggies fruit, vegetables, bottle water, graham cracker(rest of the smore materials..lol) That's all I can think of! ;)
If I had suggested you make and wear that skirt 10 years ago that dance step would have had a little less bounce to it...but while I'm at it, you do need to gather the waist a bit.
Favorite camping place, Quality Suites in Pismo.
Camp snacks, everything in the honor bar and metamucil.
Love it! I keep thinking that I should buy a sewing machine, but I'm worried it would just collect dust in my (tiny) studio apartment. You might be convincing me it'd be worth it, because I have approximately 10 shirts that I would love to make into dresses. As to camping: I live in Washington state, home of the best camping in the country. I'd say my favorites were any of the mountains, or the rainforest, or the desert... we've got all the bases covered, basically.
One of my favorite camping dinners is fried chicken sandwiches with jalapeno slaw (I use the copycat recipe from Bakesale Betty and buy chicken tenders at the grocery store in the deli section to make my life easier). They are so cheap and great and make for the best picnic/drive in/camping dinner. I just make the vinegar slaw beforehand and pack it in the cooler.
For breakfast I love breakfast burritos with cheapy farmer john maple sausage. I cook sausage in the pan and when it is done I crack the eggs in and stir it around. I heat the tortillas on top and add cheese and salsa. It is our favorite camping breakfast.
i seriously can't believe how cute this came out and how quickly you pulled it off
i am sooo impressed
my camping days are over now that the sons are not into any more. i did my motherly duty when they were young
fav place to go is Bryson City NC, right on Deep Creek

Um I am in love with this! So sorry I have been so absent friends I have missed you so!
I love camping in at Goblin Valley in Utah or at Salt Creek in Washington. Best camping spots!
Adorable!! I'm so impressed by your sewing prowess. The bright blue is totally fresh. Add a belt for waist defining and it's dyn-O-mite!

that's totally what i pictured when you posted about wanting to do this project! it is SO cute! i have a question for YOU this time -- what do you do to get those fabulous legs of yours??!
Nice job! I'm inspired to learn to sew.
I love camping! My favorite place to camp is by mammoth and mono lake in the eastern sierras. Fort Bragg in nor cal is gorgeous too. I always keep the food simple like hot dogs and chips dried fruit etc to me everything tastes good when you are in the woods!
your dress looks fab! you did a great job! have fun camping!! if you want to make it easy rei has really good actually delish meals that you basically just add boiling water and i swear when you are camping they taste extra good. and dont forget plenty of hot chocolate and whatever other yummy snacks you like!!
so cute!!
So impressed, it's so cute!
Congrats on your first sewing project! I think you'll be doing more from now :) Bright blue is indeed a great colour for you. Best camping spots North Queensland, Australia, but thats a bit far for you :)
