We're so excited to have Alison
as our Reader Submission this week. We attended the same college as
Alison, and while we were never roommates with her, we should have been! Her craftiness and fun-loving spirit were known all over campus. In
the past few months we have been blown away by her skills, she has
taken crafts to the next level folks. See for yourself over at her shop, The Little Tiny. Here's Alison:
Hey Roomies!
I need your help! No I'm not asking if a woman with
hips like these can wear horizontal stripes (I'm doing it, it's already
done!) or if I should paint my nails neon green (my baby thinks they
are candy) I need help with my statement necklace! I made
a tutorial for this really awesome fringe necklace
(at least I think it's awesome) and I've made one for LOTS of other
people, but when it comes to making one for MYSELF, I can never decide
on the length, long or short?! I like it long on other people, but I
feel like it might look awkward hanging over my, uh, giant nursing
bosoms.

When you look from the side it doesn't hang flat, it cascades
off the shelf! Then again, maybe that doesn't matter? My husband can't
seem to answer this one objectively...so I need your expertise! I've
also included some pictures of me dancing in it, because I find you
can't tell how things REALLY look until you dance in them.
So, what do you think about statement necklaces? Should the necklace
length depend on the outfit? Or does it depend on your figure? Should I
go EVEN longer or shorter than pictured? Give me your wisdom!

Shorter. I think longer could work but only with a color blocked or solid colored outfit. Or one w/o mixed patterns.
I love the long neckless! ^-^ But that's my opinion, love the dress!

Hi Alison! I have this problem with statement necklaces too (well, minus the nursing-bosoms part, haha). I think the shorter one looks best, but if the neckline of your top calls for a longer length, I say just go for it and don't worry too much about the awkwardness.
Love those necklaces - they're so great:)
So cute! I love her outfit and free spirit. This one's a toughie - I think I like it longer. I've had the same problem with a long beaded necklace - like she said, it just kind of hangs off the shelf!
I love the outfit and necklace. I am looking for a long stripped maxi dress too!!
I have the same issue sometimes, and I think it depends on the outfit and the type of necklace.
I think for this outfit I like the short one:)
Take care!!

I've got giant nursing bosoms too, so I feel your pain. lol (Only now since I'm done nursing they're giant deflated air balloon bosoms.) Okay, enough sharing done there! Anyways, what I was going to say was that I like it shorter. I think it keeps from drawing attention right smack to the girls. =) Unless, of course that's what you're going for. ;)
I love the neon green nails. I wonder if my baby would think they were candy as well? hmm..haha. I like the shorter one. I think it hangs nicely on you. I have the nursing boobs as well, and sometimes I feel like they're hanging shelf like as well. Not a fan when that happens. I think the short isn't too short or too long.
I love big statement necklaces, the bigger, the better!!! I think you're is perfect. I think the length, the size and everything else depends on how well the person can rock it!
love the dress and the long neckless! great look :)

Cute necklace, but shorter might be better!
short! it's super cute! my baby broke so many of my necklaces while he was nursing. they're too fun for little fingers to pull on while lying there sucking away!
I like it cascading off the bosoms, like you described.
If you've got 'em, flaunt 'em. I know I do.
I like the longer look. As a fully-bosomed chick, necklaces at the shorter length can sometimes get wedged in between if you're wearing lower cut tops. I hope that's not too crass, but I hope it helps!

I feel like you (Alison) can sport it either way. I think I personally like the longer look better, but they're both good! I love this post! I love Alison. I love fringe!
I think it looks great like that! I wouldn't go any longer than that though. Shorter would be my choice.
Hmmm, this is a toughie, but I think my vote is for shorter, especially if you have more of a bare neckline. Cute horizontal stripes by the way:)
This makes me think of that opening scene in Thoroughly Modern Millie, where Millie's (Julie Andrews) boobs are too big and it makes her beads lay wrong. I have the same problem! I have this awesome purple pearl-ish beaded necklace that just doesn't lay right on me. Ugh!
Watch the clip to see exactly how I feel. The part starts around 2:25...

how cute are you!!
my 2 cents says go shorter
brett
since the top is printed i say shorter if it was plain than the length it's at is fine!

Adorable outfit--I love the print mixing! I find that statement necklaces look better on my nursingbosoms (lol, love it) if they are shorter and frame the neckline of my shirt, as seen here: http://modmilkmomma.blogspot.com/2011/06/bib-necklace.html
rather than the longer, falling-off-the-shelf look.

I like shorter for your frame (meaning your bosoms). If the necklace was long and skinny rather than wide, then I think it's fine with the big bosoms though I would go even longer than you have it in that case. This scenario-- short looks more proportional in my opinion.
i think i like the shorter one better. cute necklace and outfit!
great outfit and awesome necklace!! i like the shorter version!
I really like how it looks shorter!

Well first of all, could you be any cuter?! And so funny, too! ;)
I love the long necklace! And your striped maxi! And your print mixing! And I now love your etsy store! :)
