Road Trip!

There is something about road trips that make me REALLY excited.  I'm not sure if it's because I am traveling to a new city, or because I like sitting in the car with absolutely nothing to do...or maybe it is because I get to sit in a confined space with the best person in the world and chit chat for hours on end.

Or, actually you know what it is? I think I like road trips so much because you get to eat fast food for every meal, drink lots of diet soda, and endlessly snack on excessive amounts of junk food (calories don't count on road trips, right?).

I finish my summer term this Friday (5 days! hallelujah.) and we are leaving for a little road trip.  And by little road trip, I mean 37 total hours of car time (you could eat a lot of calories in 37 hours).

But, there are two things I am quite concerned about.
  1. What will I wear for 37 hours of car time?
  2. What junk food will I pack for 37 hours of car time?
The thing about a road trip of this nature is, you want to be super comfortable, but you also have to look somewhat presentable as you jump out of the car to go on tours and explore sites (and take pictures in front of the sites).

Right now I am considering...

.....my spandex black pants (without the leopard)
 .....my "tight" shorts
 .....or, my stretchy jeans.

But, I haven't even considered a top to wear.  Or a hat? Headband? Headscarf? A dress?

So, tell me.  What do YOU wear on road trips?  And, what is the one food item you snack on while you stare out the car window?

PS- Don't worry.  Although I'll be too busy driving around America to blog, I have several questions I've been needing to ask my roommates.  I will prepare those posts before I leave town this weekend.   After I finish this crazy week of finals, of course.

Good question... I always end up looking a hot mess on road trips. Ha.

How long will you be in Cincinnati? If you have any time to kill there, you should email me -- we could grab a cup of coffee. :)

Good luck on your finals!

Have fun on your road trip! I wear comfy stretchy clothes (probably not very fashionable) and Chex Mix for my snack. The chocolate Chex Mix. Wave at me when you drive through Columbus!

although i really like the second outfit for a travel outfit, i think the black spandex pants might be the most comfortable.

Spandex! With a free tunic length top. And shoes that are easy to slip on and off. And a laptop with lots of dvds or movies on it. And mostly healthy snacks with the occasional sweet treat. ...I've taken way too many road trips lately.

Have a great road trip! I like the stretchy jeans idea. I usually wear t-shirts - a solid color, and maybe a simple necklace. hair, simple, yet comfy. One that can rebound after you have had your head plastered to your car seats headrest for hours. Also, one that won't look bad after having your window down to feel the breeze ;-)

Yay, I love roadtrips! Not sure why either lol. I would wear comfortable jeans or jean shorts that can be worn with a cute top. You seem to be on the right track already.

I'm quite jealous you're going on a road trip! I'd love to end my summer with a long car ride to nowhere :) I usually wear my stretchiest, comfiest clothes that don't make me look like I haven't showered.

i always bring beef jerkey and chips! as for clothes, I would wear something comfy and cute- you seem to be on the right track!

i don't know about fashion. but as for ohio, skip it. go north through west virginia, and for sure stop in pittsburgh. you won't regret it, i promise.

considering the current heat wave hitting the whole country, i'd be going cool as possible! your jean shorts and a loose tee or a maxi would fit the bill!

as for snacks, my rule is not to take anything individually wrapped. no, it's not about the extra trash. i just feel more free to gorge when i don't have a pile of candy wrappers as evidence of just how many starbursts i ate.

go for comfy and cool!! it's so hot out! i agree that pittsburgh is a cool city, but you could always hit it the next road trip.

i think you will need some cherry coke zero, cheese its, m&ms, almonds, chips and maybe some fruits and veggies for good measure! and of course a stop at the virginia cafe rio!!

I love a good road trip, too. Have fun!

I live in Minnesota part of the year and Texas the other part. It's a 26-hour drive between the two and I make it a couple times per year.

My favorite road-trip clothing for the summer are usually a good pair of bermuda length shorts, a flowy tank and a fedora or scarf. I also pack a pair of leggings in case it's a little chilly at night along with a cardigan. I "spice up" the outfit with a great pair of statement earrings and a belt. Flip flops with tennies easily accessible finish it off! Oh, and don't forget a few magazines and some great tunes! (I know, I know...that's more then you asked for...)

Be sure to bundle up with lots of layers...could be cooler next week. Best road trip snacks are Abba Zabba candy bars, red vines, tootsie roll pops, 3 year old pink popcorn bricks, carmel apples, salt and vinegar chips, yohoo chocolate drink, and whatever is under the warmer at the first truck stop. At the second stop mix in something healthy lke beef jerky. Don't invite Chickee along unless you want to stop twice for every meal...Arby's for a sandwich but McD's for fries, Taco Bell for tacos but Sonic for a cruchy ice drink and then a third stop for a clean restroom...your trip would be more like 50 hours for us and you can't start any day before 2 pm...Annoying but fun and worth it! (so she keeps telling me) No road trip is complete without a Chickee nest in the front passenger seat area where you would normally put your feet. It needs to be filled with at least 4 books, 6 People/True Crime Magazines, 1 Ensign, 4 weeks of Sunday paper coupons, a mister, a hand held fan, and rocks she finds along the way for Hailey...

When I was younger and went on road trips with my dad, he would turn the ac up and freeze us out. Seriously it was like I was in an ice burg. So I learned to wear pants on trips with him. lol

I would definitely make sure to have some fruits and veggies. Who wants to feel bloated in the car after eating all those icky snacks. lol

I would definitely say maxi dress while in the car.

I love road trips! I just made one and I wore a dress, but I dont think anything is more comfy or leaves room for the junk food like a dress :)

Oh my goodness, after I read my dad's comment, I realized that I'm turning into my mother because those are several of the same things that I do on a road trip. Scary.

I'd go for the black spandex. I wore mine on the UT to Chicago trip and they were great. Also, Piarate's Booty, Cheezits, and lots of DC for treats.

Sara said...

I'd take a maxi dress for sure. You can dress it up, but it's a comfortable as pajamas. As for snacks, Hostess cakes! The chocolate kind with the white swirls on top are the best.

I vote leggings, cute but comfy tee shirt and a cardi. Thats usually my outfit of choice for traveling.

Also I would pack lots of diet coke (or find the nearest Sonics), sour patch kids and maybe some trail mix.

And not to be totally creepy but are you coming through Cincinnati? Great places to eat here if you are!

Richard's comment was by far the best. I never look cute on roadtrips, but I always pack plenty of pringles and apples. Have fun!

ahh I love roadtrips! My favorite road trip outfit are leggings and an oversized t-shirt - then I accessorize! Super comfy and chic :)

I almost forgot...include a Slim Jim at the healthy food stop and a roll of duct tape, a hair dryer, and 2 pair of scissors for the nest.

Just fun to do for a couple days! And what to wear? Get comfy!! Recently found your blog and it's super cute!! You've got a new follower!

I love roadtrips! My parents dragged their 7 children around the country many times in our 12-passenger van. 3 words: books on tape. Perfect for road trips. Go for the spandex with a big loose shirt. And will you be in NYC? If so let me know if you would like to meet up!

haha! So true, calories don't count on road trips. What is it about it that makes you want to only eat junk?? Have so much fun!

HEY! You're coming through Charlottesville :-) All the outfits are so chic, I'm sure you'll look great no matter what you wear. Say hi before you pass through!!

Tamra {walkswithBella} said...

for road trips you must be comfortable but always ready for a spontaneous pit stop. I say the black pants, if they are not too hot. Oh and junk food, i don't think road trip calories count. :)

Audrey said...

Woohoo! Have fun! I really like the shorts outfit, but for being in a car for a long time, probably spandex black pants. My snack foods vary. If I left for a road trip today I'd probably take chocolate covered raisins, honey mustard pretzels, and sweet maui onion chips.

Ohhhh I love all of them...but I think my pick is #2...as long as the shorts aren't too tight! I think it is the perfect blend of cuteness and comfort :) I LOVE this blog...it gives me such inspiration :)

I'd say anything elastic is a safe choice...or a maxi dress! And trail mix.

Have a lovely road trip. I will be on one soon, but not for as long as 37 hours!! I wear wide band yoga pants, my most comfy flip flops, sunglasses, a modal top because it doesn't wrinkle and is oh so soft, and a cardigan, layers are important incase ac is one, my baby pillow, which I call because it's so little and perfect for my neck, and my blankie:) I put my hair in little knots and bobby pin them up, and when I get to the desintation I finger brush them out and have curls ;)

Now to the important stuff - goodies - its strange because my goodies differ on different days, so I just stop at a gas station store and pick whatever I am craving at that moment, which is usually involves pringles, cheetos, and a chocolate bar!

But if you want to go the safe route, I would pre-package up some of your favorite snacks. I like pretzels, chocolate covered raisins, or yogurt covered almonds, and my favorite iced tea.

Take care be safe on the road!!
