If you asked me one year ago, "Hey, Monica...would you ever be caught dead in a horizontal striped shirt?" I would have said no. Then if you would have said, "How about a flowy top that has pink horizontal stripes?" I would have replied with a HECK NO.
But..here I am today in a pink, flowy, horizontal striped top. What happened to me?
I still don't know how I feel about these extremely flowy tops that are popping up everywhere. I mean, I like the fact that it covers up the 5 cake batter pancakes I ate for my husband's birthday. And, I like that it's nice and loose for this humid weather. But, one thing that bothers me is the fact that when I bought it I knew I would have to put a camisole under because it was too low cut and too short. It just seems illogical to purchase something that is unwearable without another clothing item under it.
Everything on my body: TJ Maxx
(standing pigeon-toed gives the illusion that your thighs don't touch from the knee cap all the way up.. seriously. try it in your next photo)
Doesn't that left hand look kind of creepy without an arm?
Do you guys ever purchase items that you know you'll have to modify? Is it worth a purchase?

I have a few dresses and tops, mostly white or ivory, that I can't wear without a second dress under it. H&M sells a lot of cheap tanks and skirts (for about $3 each, that do the trick :) I feel a bit tacky when I'm showing of my undies or waaaaaay to much cleavage! x
I have a decent amount of striped tops and come to think of it I think most of them are horizontal also. I think that outfit looks so cute!! Esp. love the yellow shoes with that top!
Sometimes I buy white tops that are pretty sheer, knowing I'll need a tank top underneath. I think it's okay to have some items like that, but probably impractical for your whole wardrobe to look like that. I think the top you're wearing here is really cute, so I say good purchase.

Sometimes a nice loose top is great. hahaha what happened to your arm.....??? And I also buy items I have to modify. It's so hard to find modest stuff. uhhh
I like this top because you kept the bottom half tighter fitting with the skinny pants. It makes the flowy top more proportionate. I think you look adorable!

I love this blouse! I just bought a couple really flowy tops and I know what you mean... I never would have worn them when I was younger, but I really love them now. As far as buying things that need to be altered--I say absolutely not. Unless you're scooping them up from a thrift store. I don't really count camis as alterations though. I have a few sheer blouses that I wear with different colored tanks underneath to change up how the garment looks.

Cake batter pancakes? Now you've got my attention. Are they as good as they sound?
love the pink stripes! i felt the same way about horizontal stripes and now i cannot.get.enough.
and yesss, it is worth the purchase to modify clothes- i feel like that way you create a one of a kind piece :)
I have to wear a tank under almost every shirt I buy because I'm kinda blessed in the boob department. Even things that wouldn't be low cut on some people look hoochy-ish on me!
Anyways, I think that tops looks adorable on you!! And if I were you, I'd definitely keep it and even buy more like it. =)
I really love that top! I actually think I would wear it without a tank under it and with high waisted shorts/jeans.
I like the flowy tops. It's hard if you have substantial girls, but they can still be pulled off. I think it's nice that we don't have to wear something skintight to be a little sultry.
after you mentioned the hand, it did look kinda creepy, and I laughed out loud. I do sometimes buy things that will need another item to go along with it. But never something that I'll have to stitch up to make it fit better, or something like that. If it needs "extreme modification" then it's a no-go. But, just a cami adjustment doesn't bother me (as long as I already have the cami).
I feel like the horizontal rule simply does not apply anymore. You look fabulous.
I usually end up wearing a cami under the majority of the shirts/dresses that I wear, so I have no issues buying a shirt knowing that I'll have to wear another layer under it!
that top is darling! i think i need to hit up tj maxx today! so many things today do require a cami underneath...i guess i am used to it at this point? but i still buy things that need to be altered if i love them!
For a long time I wore camis under most clothes I wore because I was worried about bending over and showing the goods (even though I barely have any). Looks really cute on you!!
I heart stripes forever and always, and that top looks great on you!
I just bought a black and white patterned sheer top from T.J. Maxx that I'll have to wear a tank under (I also plan on using it as a swim cover up). My rule of thumb is that it's okay to buy something sheer or cropped, as long as I already have something to wear under it.
today i am wearing a pretty sheer pink top (the outfit i wore when i got proposed to!) that no matter what has to have a tank top underneath it. I loved the top too much to not buy it!
I don't know why you would have said heck no because you look fabulous!
The majority of my tops need a camisole underneath if I want to wear them to work. I found myself so limited when I refused to buy something that needed a cami. Now, it feels so normal.
I have the same feelings about the new flowy top trend. I'm not sure about it, but I would like to try it if I can find just the right top.
BTW You look adorable! I love your shoes.
It looks cute! And comfy too :) If you love it, buy it!
i think those tops are way cute, but suspect only people that have never been preggers are the only ones buying them
whether or not they make one look in the family way, once you have been, you are very careful about not ever looking that way again lol

You look beautiful! I love that top on you.
I used to not buy things that needed something underneath them, but I've become so accustomed to layering with blazers and cardigans that layering with camis underneath doesn't seem so foreign anymore.
I really like horizontal stripes, and I think that the top looks great on you! But I find it annoying that I can't wear many of my clothes without another clothing item underneath.
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog!
I totally buy skirt and dress that I plan to either shorten or lengthen. I always check to see if there's enough fabric to un-hem a hemline and then re-hem it at a longer length. But when you're in the store for that long debating it, it doesn't become an illogical buy but a very thought out buy!
Hahaha. I love flowy tops but definitely end up having to wear something under all of them! I used to wear layers and layers when I was younger, but now it just feels silly. I am in total agreement with you... but I do it anyway haha.
P.S. I think you look fab! :)

you look like a parakeet. nuff said.

Yes about half my closet has to have a shirt under it. It's kinda annoying, but it opens up my options in the clothing department.
I actually really love those types of tops but I'm still trying to cover up my baby fat from Bub being born. Yes, I know it's been a year LOL!!!! You look adorable in that top though so I think it was well worth the purchase. It would be cute belted too :)
1. this shirt is adorable!
2. i wish i had hair long enough to re-create your bun, seriously jealous of that
3. i definitely buy things that need to be modified. i think you made the right decision buying this
4. didn't you say that you lived in knoxville? my hubby is from oak ridge (20 mins away)...and i'm not sure how long ya'll have been there but if you ever need a suggestion for a dinner place or anything let me know, we could definitely help you out :) btw, have you tried calhouns? omg!!
You are so cute in stripes! And I LOVE your bun!
I have bought clothes before knowing I had to modify but usually avoid it to save time. I think its worth it sometimes though!
I love stripe patterns no matter what. and that top look so cute on you. xoxo

I adore this outfit. You look terrific and yes, I have bought items that I knew I would have to wear something under them.

I love the shirt! Its very feminine and pretty.
I like to layer, so buying stuff that I know I will have to layer doesn't bother me.
I have purchased items I know didn't fit right thinking with a belt or something I could make it work. You look great.
