READER SUBMISSION

Hey roomies! We're Carissa and Isabel from A Dose of Lovely. It is so very nice to meet you all.

We aren't really the type of girls who obey the laws of fashion. For example, a few years ago Isabel wore these old thrifted grandma loafers with everything [really grandma shoes--brand: walkables]Her sisters [her most brutal fashion critics] teased her like crazy... but she never faltered, she knew better. Now, what are those sisters of hers wearing on their precious little feet these days, you ask? Well of course, shoes that very closely resemble those grandma loafers from so long ago...the irony.

So here is our dilemma...

Cardigan: H&M, Dress: Old Navy, Shoes: Ross, Earrings: Nordstrom's Rack

You may have a boyfriend/husband/fiance/friend that gives you vague answers about fashion that are far from helpful...my husband is not like that. Instead of vague answers, he gives outrageous ones that usually make very little sense. I was talking to him the other day, and telling him about a pair of boots I want to wear with dresses and he responded by saying, "I think boots make girls look like they don't have legs" (What does that even mean??) Well, needless to say, I do not want to be wearing things that make me look like I'm missing two limbs.

Dress: Forever 21, Shoes: Nordstrom Rack

Similar to Isabel, my mom and sister are pretty judgey when it comes to fashion. I rarely wear something they would, so you can imagine how often they make a joke at my outfit's expense. When I wore the combination above they were positive that those booties with that dress looked darn right silly. I, however, thought it was adorable. It's scary to think that I could be so far off base!

So here is our question....

Does it work to wear boots with dresses?

Boots with dresses are a must for fall and winter! That's how I stay warm. I love the look of a good pair of boots with a cute skirt or dress. I especially love the look of the last outfit. I've never worn booties, but those are soooo cute!

ABSOLUTELY! Boots with dresses = two thumbs up.

I love boots with dresses, but I definitely think it's one of those things that women like more than men, unless we're talking a Pretty Woman type of boot/dress combo. My husband is a leg man and he hates tall boots.
That said, nothing wrong with dressing for ourselves and other girls. The Man Repeller is building an empire based on the concept.

dresses with boots are my favorite! It's definitely a fall/winter outfit.. as currently we've had 45+ days over 100 in my part of Texas... just too plain hot for boots right now. You better believe I'm dreaming of cooler weather so I can bring my boots back out!

I love boots with dresses! It's impossible to keep warm in the winter (besides tights) here on the east coast without them... ~ Andi

boots ABSOLUTELY work with dresses. One of my favorite combinations. Men never know what they're talking about when it comes to fashion anyways.

I love boots with dresses!! I especially love how toughen up that striped dress. And how the flirty dress makes those booties a little more girlie.

Well, I'm am by no means a fashion expert, but I am a real person who thinks that real women should be able to wear whatever makes them feel good. That being said, I think tall boots with dresses are SO cute, it's kind of ridiculous. Short boots with dresses, I think depends on the whole outfit. With the dress above, it's super cute, but some other things might not work as well.
Now I am going to get dressed and figure out how to wear my boots with my outfit :)

I personally Love the contrast of boots with dresses. It's like the masculinity of the boots contrast the femininity of the dress. In my opinion only certain boots work with dresses though. you girls both look lovely!!

my friend and i had this conversation not too long ago
we are decidely older than you and our answer was boots are great with dresses
our only exception was that our age (late 40's) we needed to make sure we stayed away from cowboy boots and sundresses, otherwise all systems go

I think boots definitely work with dresses!! Both outfits are adorably sweet!! I haven't worn them in the spring or summer yet and it's only because I haven't found a pair to go with all my summery, pastel pieces. But I have a great pair of black ones I live in and wear in the fall and winter with all my dresses.

But the both of you ladies look great with your dresses and boots!!

you have to wear high heeled boots with dresses. the flat ones make you look stumpy. IMO.

Sara C. Walk said...

oh my gosh YES! Both those outfits are just way too darn cute! If boots make me look like I don't have legs then so be it, I love myself a good pair of boots with a cute dress.

I love boots with dresses!!! A couple years ago, I broke a toe and my winter boots were the only shoes I could wear(thank goodness it was winter!) On days when I wanted to look cute at work, the only solution was boots and a dress!

You both are adorable, and I now want some summer boots to wear with a polka-dot dress in my closet!

I wear boots with dresses ALL THE TIME. If you're worried that they might be unflattering, just go for boots with high heels.

I think it depends on the boot and the cut and fit of the dress. Long dresses with boots...not a fan...but then again I don't really like ankle boots with above the ankle maxi skirts. Then if the dress is "short" and you wear tall boots...can be a bit stripper ish. I say just go with your guy feel
