READER SUBMISSION

I was so excited when I read Kendra's Reader Submission for today because I have been wondering the EXACT same thing about this skirt.  So, I can't wait to see what you guys say!  Kendra is a smokin' hot mother of one and is one the most fun girls around.  Believe me, I would know.  I spent 12 hours a day with her in a 90 degree swimming pool for several months of my life.  And no, we weren't just lounging-- we were dealing with screaming children-- and it is pretty hard to be fun in a situation like that.  Take it away, Kendra!

Yesterday my husband asked me ever so politely if I had any skirts that were a little less...poochy. Who wants to hear that?! Since I am on the very thrifty side with my husband being in grad school, I get 99% of my fashion from consignment stores. You can't beat a skirt for $3.50! But with that price, I'm worried that I'm giving off a "grandma gertrude" vibe instead of "hey, this is cool vintage." Since having a baby 7 months ago, I am very conscious of my mid section. A pooch is the last thing I want.

So my question is, should these blast from the past skirts be left on the rack or can this momma still wear them without people awkwardly pondering if I have another baby in my womb?

Do my hips look like they're still in birthing mode?  And, does the skirt need to be tapered at the bottom so it doesn't look like my hips run from my waist to my calf? [Sorry about the wrinkles. I swear it was all pressed that morning :)]

Thanks gals!

I actually have several skirts this exact style, that are thrifted as well. I found with the length and some of the pleating details at the top, if you belt it and wear some high heels it makes it work and feels a little more modern.

For just having a baby 7 months ago, you look darn good!

These skirts are definitely coming back in style! I have one in magenta from a thrift store. While I do love it, I laugh every time I wear it because I can picture a grandma getting all fancied up for church :)

I agree with Heather, adding a belt will definitely help give it some ummph and a more modern feel. I love to wear mine with a denim shirt in the summer, and a cardigan and tall boots in the fall! Definitely don't get rid of it though!

i love those skirts, i am mildly obsessed with them actually. i don't think they look "pouchy" -- at least not this one. maybe hem the skirt a smidge, and it will look less "grandma-y" and more modern. you look gorgeous!

It's a great skirt, but I say taper it in at the bottom. Then the extra fabric around the waist/hips will look like it's supposed to be there.

I don't think the non-taper is the problem. But I do think there is a slight "poof" at the sides that isn't the most flattering. I think instead of a taper, perhaps bringing it up a couple inches (more of a mini, but not super-short) would be better!

I've totally done this too! Pick something up in a great color at a thrift store because it's a great price and then it doesn't fit quite right.

I think it looks great the way it is, but I agree that it could look even better tapered. I like the belt idea too... Looks like I'm just going to agree with what others are saying today.

Belt, heels, taper...yes. :) If you hem it a smidgen too--all good suggestions. I would also choose to show either more neck or arm with a more modern looking blouse, just to keep the overall look fresh and current. But like everyone said-it's pretty difficult for you to look bad in anything.

I think a belt would help and its probably the pleats that are responsible for any pooch (not that I see any on you, you look great!) but I know I tried on a cuuuute similar skirt to this but the pleats made it not very flattering on me. A-line skirts are easier to find at thrift stores and they make the waist look tiny and hide anything you want :)

I think the skirt looks really good on you!

I think it looks good the way it is - though it should be ironed. ;)

cracking up at husbands vernacular!!
I think if you shorten the skirt and belt it, you will go a long way in updating your look!

I know EXACTLY how you feel, when I wear skirts like this I always want to walk around with my hands on my hips bc i feel like it makes them so poofy.

but you look great, and I don't get that vibe at all, and the color is so nice. I like it as it is.

it doesn't look like you have a pooch, so you're good there! the skirt may look a little better if it's tapered, it will give it more shape. but i think it looks more vintage cool than grandma gertrude :)

I think you look smokin' hot. I think the top is gorgeous, too. And I am SO in love with the color.

Sometimes if there are pockets(which there are in a lot of skirts this style) it can create a poof at the hips. If you sew up the pocket and snip the excess off it helps them to lay flatter. I think its fabulous!

I can't tell that there is a pooch at all. I think it looks great as it is. I also think it would look good if it was hemmed and tapered.

And I don't think there is pooch! It's a great color.
