READER SUBMISSION

Whitney and I had a group of best friends all through high school.  We were pretty cool.  So cool that we even gave our little group a name.  It was kind of like the babysitter's club...except we didn't babysit.  Today our reader submission is one of our best friends from our high school group.  Dominique has always been super stylish and hip.  We have a lot to thank her for-- she introduced Whitney to the beloved hair straightener and she taught me how to put eyeliner on my eye.  Dominique is the first of our friends to get pregnant and we are SO excited! Look how smokin' she looks with that pregnant belly!

Pregnancy does weird things to your body, but I would have to say the most bizarre thing would be getting up one day and realizing that your stomach is now the size of a basketball. I have found that throughout this whole ordeal I’ve subconsciously been avoiding that trip to “Motherhood Maternity” in hopes of being able to squeeze and stretch my way into my non-maternity clothes for as long as I can.  I admit I had to cave a few times to get those stretchy pants or bigger shoes because of swollen feet. And recently I’ve found myself purposely positioning that accent belt right below the bust line. At first it felt like the right thing to do, but the other day I noticed that all it does it draw more attention to that big belly.

So, what do you think of pregnant ladies wearing belts?  Is it too big of a statement for a pregnant lady at my size? Please help! Thanks roommates!

Pregnancy definitely does some weird things to your body! I think it looks really cute! Have you tried the low slung belt? Jessica Alba and Heidi Klum did it when they were preggers and it looked really cute. Good luck!

As far as I'm concerned, you should wear the belly proud. I think the belt is adorable. Clearly it's not "functional" as much as aesthetic for tying together your outfit and it is totally cute! If you like it, wear it!

If you've got it, flaunt it! In a proper way. Not too much skin to make people uncomfortable.

I wore belt all throughout my pregnancy, which ended just a few months ago so I'm all in favor of belts and heels while pregnant, which was well documented on the blog.

I love wearing belts up high like that during my pregnancies. Makes me feel like I have a shadow of a former waist. A big chunky belt can be very cool over a comfortable maxi dress. However, the under-belly placement of a belt looks terrible on me!

i definitely think we hit a certain point during pregnancy when a belt is not flattering anymore. i stopped wearing belts at about 6 months.

Although the belt really serves no purpose...what purpose do earrings, necklaces, and bracelets have? Nothing. Nothing but to adorn and accessorize. I think this belt is a FABULOUS accessory. It totally flatters your baby bump. I think you look totally smokin. So smokin that I want to look just like you when I am pregnant (someday far off in the future). And I will totally be sporting the belt-above-belly.

Being pregnant allows you to wear anything! Since no one's going to criticize a pregnant person!

Pregnancy brings about so many body changes, it's crazy. With baby 1 I didn't even wear maternity clothes, I just bought bigger sizes! With baby 2 I wanted to embrace being preggo & went with maternity clothes at about 4 months. If I have a 3, I'm wearing regular clothes & am gonna show if that bump!!! Your friend is one of the cutest pregnant ladies EVER. I love the belt, tell her to keep embracing :)

If the belt is comfortable go for it. As far as the maternity clothes are concerned, wear them! There are so many cute maternity options these days and they're so much more comfortable than regular clothes are. You can wear flattering, bump showing tops these days. Its so hard to get comfortable as pregnancy progresses so please don't make it worse by squeezing into clothes not designed for pregnancy. Best of luck w/ the rest of your pregnancy!

I like the way you are wearing the belt in the pic. It's almost empire style and it's very flattering.

During pregnancy body has changed and need to change some things with it. One option, highly recommended by doctors, is a maternity belt.

I say it's a great add to a pregnant belly. I wore TONS of belts when I was still pregnant. It was my way of adding some interest to the boring shirts I was wearing to fit my big belly. The downside is, if you're a nursing Mom, you won't be able to wear the belts afterwards (due to needed boob access). So! LIVE IT UP!
