Okay, onto the important things. You guys answered so nicely our reader submission's question about boots and dresses and now I ask the question, how do we feel about tennie/loafer/oxford (I don't know the proper name) with dresses? What is the name of these shoes?
and I swear this dress is more flattering in real life, I think it's the bad lighting/bad pose/too much s'mores magic shell topping that makes the dress not look as cute.

apologize for the coloring on this picture, it's not some cool filter
or something, we just don't know how to take pictures inside yet. |
Do you wear loafer/oxford/tennies with dresses? OR have you had any good grocery store finds this summer?

I really like the dress with the oxfords!
And no, I haven't tried the smores but it sounds delicious!
I think the loafers look cute with that dress. Having said that, not often do I look loafers with dresses. To be safe, I stick to flats! Now on with the important, I found the BEST thing ever in my grocery store the other day. Vanilla & Caramel Swirl Marshmallows. Yep, they will be amazing when we make smores over the campfire. I am super excited :)
The dress is super cute and I love the oxfords. They're comfy, a current trend (but classic)! If you're feeling daring... maybe paint the tip of the shoes with a bright hue.

I would call them oxfords, but I'm not sure if that's the right term? I like them with the dress, but I also really like those flats with it... they "pop" a little more for some reason. But in the fall, when you could add some tights in a color from the dress and wear the oxfords? That would be SUPER cute.
I find that flats open up the leg more so it won't cut you off at the ankle. Boots/oxfords with below the knee dresses just chop up the body too much (in my opinion). I love the oxfords though!! They'd be cute with a dress that hits about 2 inches or more above the knee:)
And that dress is fab! Love all the pretty colors in it.
I was so going to do a post about this! It was probably inspired by re watching Mad Men, or pictures of cute 1940s women in dresses and saddle oxfords.
Anyway, I was thinking that in the days when women wore dresses all the time, they didn't go out in heels or wedges every day. They wore Keds or oxfords or other flats with day dresses. So why not? I think it's an adorable look.
These shoes are oxford style and while I do like them, I don't feel these ones work that well. Maybe the colour, that dress is amazing and will work well for fall. Maybe a tan leather would work better and in a loafer style as well, would be really cute. I have just found your site and have joined up for all this fun and help. My husband says "fine" to any look and I am sure that is just so we can leave the house...hehe. ax
I love oxfords! Although with the dress length, it would look better with the flats. Oxfords look cute with cropped pants and shorts or shorter lengthed dresses. This dress is super cute. How about some T-strap heels? Now that would look cute!

As a solely pointy-toe flat wearer (no pun intended), I am obviously going to go with the flats. The oxfords don't look bad at all, I just gravitate toward my uniform. On another note, a Smores shell? YES!
Super, super cute dress! But I like it better with the flats... Or a pair of sexy high heels!
I like the oxfords. Sometimes you have to play around with them with different skirts and dresses before you find the right look. I find that with fuller a-line skirts oxfords work well. I haven't tried it with straight skirts. I love pairing them in the winter with thick tights.
Complex Cardigans
definitely the oxfords! So much cuter in my opinion and they have a vintage-y feel which is always a plus to me :)
I haven't tried oxfords with dresses yet, but I like how it looks and just bought some oxfords and am excited to do it. But for this particular dress I think the flats look better. The color pops more and makes the whole outfit pop a little more too. I'm not sure if it's just the angle in the picture or if it's actually the shoes, but your feet look smaller in those oxfords and I think with the dress being on the longer side it's creating some imbalance.
Audrey @ Putting Me Together
not a fan of the oxfords. i think they cut your legs in a funny way an actually make them look big, which seems impossible because your legs are anything but big. i'd stick with a flat for sure.
The oxfords are super cute, but not with the dress. They cut the line of your leg at the ankle and make them look shorter than they are! I feel like the flats that are open on top of the foot elongate your legs better, so I would definitely go with the flats.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the dress!!! NOT a fan of the oxfords. Stick with sassy flats or flirty heels!
I am afraid to wear oxfords, they scream "Marching Band Shoes" to me more than anything else, and even an adorable dress like this one can't save that.
The oxfords don't look bad in these pics, but I think the flats (or a heel, I'm all about skirts + heels) look better.
i like the flats better, they're really cute and make it look more feminine :)
FLATS! Or even a cute pair of sandals. The loafers make your legs look... well, not so feminine. And this summer, my little sister and I discovered Nutella. Have you had it? It's the best thing ever! I don't know why it took me so long to figure that out. But now, I can't get enough of it!
I love oxfords! And I wear mine with dresses although they probably look better with pants, it just depends on the dress though, I like them with your vintage dress super cute :)
I think the flats look better!
Flats, for sure!
I'd have to choose the flats. The oxfords look cute but maybe with a bit shorter or a dress and/or shorts. cute dress though!
Libby on the Label
I loooove oxfords, and I really think they go with just about anything! That just might be me though, haha. Those are super cute though – I think they look great with the dress :)
i have NOT tried it but it is still on my list of things to do- have you tried to caramel pretzel klondike bars yet? THAT is going to be amazing once you eat it. i promise. i actually haven't eaten them yet because i bought the heath ones by accident. and they were not that great. it tasted more like a crunch bar than a heath flavor and it was disappointing. the mint chocolate klondikes are also good!
okay okay now whitney- can i ask where you're located in the bay area? we should meet up some time!
the style projects
LOVE the dress! Not so keen on the oxfords. Maybe with a pair of trousers, but with that dress - as many have said before, the flats.
Much better with the flats...no oxfords IMO. :)
I'd call them oxfords. With this dress, I think flats are better... usually oxfords go with shorter skirts I think. :) All your pieces are super cute! :)
I like the flats, but that's probably because I'm just personally not at oxfords person. I really like that dress is it vintage?
I love that dress, it's so pretty! And on the shoe issue, I do wear oxfords with dresses sometimes, but I think with this dress I just slightly prefer the flats, but the oxfords still look very cute =)

I would go for the flats.
And speaking of Smores, I made this dip Friday that I have been INHALING all weekend! All you do is mix cream cheese, marshmallow cream, and milk chocolate chips, then dip with graham cracker sticks. It really is heaven in your mouth :)
I love oxfords with dresses! Looking great!
Happy Monday!

Definitely oxfords and dresses...love the shirt dress, great colors!!
I am going to have to check out the s-mores shell topping...sounds drool-worthy!
I LOVE your dress with the grey shoes
I do so love that dress!!! But I agree w/ other readers about how the oxford makes it look choppy. I like the oxfords, i just think maybe with another outfit.
so im gonna come and steal that dress k? ha! you have the raddest clothes
Great pair! There is a color of the shoes that matched to the dress which I like.
