You See My True Colors

DISCLAIMER: I get a lot of, "You should wear heels with that" every time I wear a skirt. Yes, I realize this but heels are not an option with 21 kindergartners so I am sometimes stuck in flats that make my legs look, ahem, womanly... and I'll just accept that. I also realize that this skirt should be hemmed to my knees but it was $1 and my hemming pile is currently too large (same as my dirty clothes pile and I may or may not being wearing those clothes too).

Okay, onto the question. I like color. Lots of it. But I've been trying to decide if this outfit is too, "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME". Like when I saw this picture I matched the stop sign perfectly behind me and I can't decide if that is a good thing.

99% of the time I wear what I like regardless of how I think I may be perceived by others, but let's be honest here, what do you think? Too much color for you?

If I were going to substitute a different colored shirt/cardigan choice, what should I choose?

(and can I tell you how much I loved the part in the movie The Help when Skeeter is taking off her shoes and her mom says, "take off those mexican boy sandals" and they're the shoes I have! and I agree with every other girl in the blogosphere, that movie was incredible.  I especially loved Celia Foote, did you have a favorite character?)

Well, I like red and yellow together (ketchup and mustard). Maybe go with a white cardi? The blue cardi is still cute though.

I love the color combo. Mustard and red are amazing with other colors to balance them. Also, I will never judge your footwear. 21 kindergartners at once makes you a saint in my book. Saints get a free pass on wearing heels.

Love the colout combo!

I love the colors! Especially for a kindergarten teacher. It is so fun and cheery!

And kudos to you for wearing flats with skirts. I'm aware that heels might look "better" but when I can't walk/do my job I will look pretty darn stupid, so I'll just stick to flats, thanks.

I love the colors in this outfit! There are so many times that I know heels would look better with an outfit, but I choose flats. At some point, the pain of heels just isn't worth it!

i love those colors together! another option is just a white tee with the blue cardi and red skirt (but is that too patriotic now? hmmm...) maybe a blue top?

and ceilia foote was my favorite too! i thought the actress that played her nailed the part! great movie!!

i love the combo. i think since the navy cardigan acts as a neutral it works!

"Same as my dirty clothes pile and I may or may not be wearing those clothes too."

I laughed out loud when I read this...because I do that too. Sometimes there's a cardigan or something in the hamper that I know I wore for only a few hours. If it smells fine, I wear it, no hesitation! :)

Honestly I love this outfit. It's so cute.

If you really want to tone down the color I would switch the yellow for a white top, but I love the yellow. But with white you might possibly be mistaken for a polka dotted American flag...

And I agree with you on the heels. Sometimes they just aren't an option.

Oh, I love the colors! There's nothing wrong with matching the stop sign. =) And you could switch out the yellow top for a turquoise one or a light blue one or a plain white one. Or at Christmas time, you could wear a green one. The kids would probably love that. =)

I love the mustard and red. I think the white shoes are the problem. I'm not saying you should wear heels (because we all know that would look better, but its not an option). I think the white color and how much foot they cover are the issue. Perhaps a show that shoes more of the top of your foot, which will extend the leg.

(And I think this skirt will look awesome when hemmed).

I like the yellow-red combo! I think maybe the blue cardigan makes the combo a little primary-colorsish, but for real-- you are a kindergarten teacher and you can SO rock the primary colors.
And the "mexican man sandal" part of the movie-- I was the only person who laughed. The ONLY one! How?!

Wow I got so excited about this outfit when I saw it! That skirt for one dollar?! Honestly, I think the length looks great. The colors are fantastic, it doesn't look like "look at me! Look at me!" it just looks like you know what you're doing when mixing colors! This outfit is fantastic, and another outfit that would be adorable would be that top with the cardigan & skinny jeans---I love navy & mustard!

I love that skirt! I think the length is cute, and it's not too much color at all!

i think it is more a matter of mixing so much color with a print
love the yellow and red together so i would ditch the blue cardi
a print and colorblocking might just be too much in my opinion

definitely no too much...love all the colors, they work well together since they are all primary! That outfit is great and I love the length of that skirt!

I think the colors work great together. If you're feeling self-conscious, maybe a neutral cardigan, but I don't think you have any reason to feel self-conscious. And I totally get you on the flat footwear. I don't teach kindergarteners, but I do teach, and being on your feet all day in heels is hard. I wear flats almost exclusively.

I really like the yellow and red together. I think you could lose the cardigan. Someone above suggested a white one instead, and I think that would go well. :) Hemming the skirt a little might be a good idea too. Overall though, I love the colors! :)

I think it looks perfect. The skirt looks great at the length it is... and the colors together are just fine. The outfit doesn't scream for attention at all. It just says, "I know how to dress." :0)

I love it! Red and mustard? You can't go wrong!

I don't think it is too much color... I would just go with a neutral shoe.

I AMA teacher too. Today is my first day back!

I love the "Look at me!" look ;) This is perfect combo colors...you could do a turquoise cardigan, that would scream LOOK AT ME! LOL I think this is perfect. You look great, and you are awesome, I couldn't handle 21 kindergartners, heels or not :)

Cute outfit! Maybe a white cardigan would tone it down a bit. I don't think it needs toning though. Don't blame you for wearing flats and I never hem my skirts. I know I should, but I rather have a root canal than hem clothes.

um, yes. Celia Foote was my FAVORITE! loved her! Plus mini (or however you spell her name). OK, so honestly, the skirt is a bit too much for me. Like you'd mentioned at the beginning about hemming it, I think that would make it not so much RED. I think then it would look fine with the added yellow and cardigan. But, as is, I think you'd need to go more neutral. even try a brown (not an orangey brown, but a tamed down one so it doesn't compete with the red).

I love those shoes!!! I personally love the outfit, but sometimes I wear something that just isn't me and I'm not 100% comfortable in it. Those are the times I'm either wearing what I think I should be or basing a look off an era, instead of my own taste. If you're not feeling fabulous, try a different combo or consider altering it. Just a suggestion!
