Is it still a no?
Posted by
Whitney Jay
The first time I posted this dress I was asking what length I should hem it to, but instead I got a lot of "I HATE THAT DRESS". It made me laugh because that wasn't the question. However that was the response I got, so I rethought the dress. I took it in on the sides and on the sleeves and made it shorter. How do we feel about it now? Is it still a no? This time you can say "I hate that dress!" because that is the question. You can actually say whatever you want, because I'm kind of opening myself up to that.
So, what do you guys think? Is this dress still a no? Should I send it back to the Salvation Army where I got it?

I think it's an adorable dress and you should keep it!! :)
I love it!
I love it! But I don't think thats the right belt for it.
what! that dress is so pleasant, how could anyone hate it?
adorable dress!

Its a cute little dress, a sunny Sunday kind of dress, but not for a night out on the town. I like the modifcations you've done to it!
much better :)
not a huge fan to be honest :(
I think it's cute since you made the length shorter and added a belt. It's a 50s style look, which I like. I say keep it if you like it!
Um. I kind of think the material looks like a nightgown. But I like the length. Perhaps a different belt?
It's just not a flattering style for you. I say send it back and hold out for something that makes you look and feel great!
Very cute :)
I do like the dress but something is off a little...maybe if the sleeves were more of a cap sleeve. Hmmmm.
i think its adorable! love what you've done to it (although, honestly i liked it before too!)
I'm not a fan. I have to agree with the night gown comment. I thought the same thing!
I love the skirt - but the top just isn't doing anything for ya. Turn it into just a skirt and wear a fun quite blouse with it!
*white blouse
I would never wear it, but I am not usually one to go for a dress like that no matter what. The only vaguely insulting thing that comes to mind is that it looks a little like housecoat fabric. If you like it, rock it! I didn't see the first time around, but it seems that your alterations made it more flattering.
The color is too pale, it makes you look old. It looks like an old lady dress/nightgown. The dress does look better, but not for a young woman like you. Sell it on eBay!
It's cute...but at the same time I am not sure? I think because it reminds me of the dresses I wore in high school maybe? I don't know. I'm on the fence, cute but I don't know if I love? The length is super cute though!
I've loved it all along, especially now!
I don't love it... but I think it is the belt that is throwing me off. I love the shoes... maybe if you had a gray belt to coordinate with the shoes? I think that would put it together for me. :)
I think it's cute ;) I'm not sure about the belt with it though. I think a solid would be better.
I actually really like this dress! And it looks like it has pockets. Any dress with pockets is a winner in my book!
it's okay, but i'm not 100% on it. I think a different belt would def. help though. I want to see the before pic!

I'm shocked by all the negativity.
I think it's cute and if you like it then screw em', seriously! haha
I really like the dress.

Are those grey shoes with a brown belt?????? I still don't think I like the dress...
Definitely better - length is much more flattering. I agree with trying a different belt, though.
i wish i could have seen the dress before
this is super cute, but i would rethink that belt
maybe a skinny patent leather in hot pink or something

I like the dress...the cut looks great on you! Maybe ad a solid belt...definitely keep!
I think it's cute! But I also tend to get criticized for liking grandma-ish things so do with that what you will. ;) Not that it stops me!!
i think the dress is cute. however, i would definitely change the shoes. i would probably go with a wedge... either nude or the color of your belt.
I really like this dress! It looks cute :) I do agree with Lori though, maybe a different shoe would work better.
I REALLY hated the dress before, but now I think it's okay; not my favorite outfit of yours, but it's not bad. Great job with the alterations.
I'm not a fan. You are young and have a great body and this dress just doesn't do much for you. I say return it and find something that is still retro but has a more flattering shape.
Its definitely much better than the original. But there is still something *off* about it. Maybe the neckline?
I say keep! I'm a big fan of vintage/thrift pieces especially one's with a throw back feel. Yes over here the adjustments are perfect.
ps. Maybe you should add a brooch or 2 to hear the neckline. To give it more of a ladylike/classic feel!
You are a master with the sewing machine, girl! I LOVE it! I'm not sure how I feel about the brown belt and the grey shoes though....
I really love it! I just looked at your old post and I didn't like it before, so I'm saying it honestly, I think you reworked it beautifully! You really updated it, but I actually think the fabric is what keeps it vintage looking and keeps that fun vibe about it, so even if people are saying it looks like a nightgown, I say go for it!
Oh, and I LOVE the shoes with it - totally makes you look like the dress was a fashion conscious decision, and not granny-dress.
Hope that makes sense. =)
I definitely think the dress ages you a little bit. I don't hate it but it's not my fave that you have worn! I think you are all that really matters & if you love it, keep it. If not, send it back. Easy Peasy!!!
Definitely NOT a no! Yes, it's a bit loose and long, but there's something to be said about modesty and leaving-assets-to-the-imagination. You look beautiful and if anything, you'll get checked out by other fashionistas instead of pervy men. Win-win!
You look cute IN the dress, but, lord, those 80's buttons. I feel like you have so much cuter clothing!
(If you love it, KEEP IT; if you're on the fence, send it back, send it back).
I love the dress!! I think its an adorably sweet color and looks great with the accessories! If anything, I agree with Carolyn above, about the buttons, I love changing buttons on things!
OH GIRL....I LOVE IT!! Seriously, you look stunning and where are your shoes from? You really are so beautiful!
Well done! The alterations really make all the difference.

Love it. Nice recon, Whitney! It's better proportioned now. I also think heels are the way to go. Gray and pink is a lovely color combination.
I think you've done a marvelous job with the alterations. I like the idea of a hot pink belt, or perhaps something turquoisey? I don't think the belt here is doing you any favors. That being said, I love love LOVE the shoes! The heels! The t-strap! The ruffles!! Love, love, love.

Meh.
You've got the gorgeous gams, I think you could still go even a bit shorter in the length? Yes, I said gams.
It is not my favorite, but..I don't hate it. Just...meh.
I like the dress with the shoes, but the belt doesn't really match in my opinion. Keep the dress!
