READER SUBMISSION

One of our favorite e-roommates is Audrey from Putting Me Together.  I religiously check her blog every single day.  I mean, look how cute she is.  How could you not love her?  And her hair makes me want to chop all of mine off and cut it into a perfect bob just like hers.  I can't wait to see what you have to say about her "ugly cute dress".

Hey Roomies!  I'm so excited to ask you about this dress today because I've been wondering for a year about what to do with it!

I inherited this dress a year ago, but I haven't worn it once yet.  You see, the friend who gave it to me described it as being "ugly cute."  She said, "You know, like it's kind of ugly but in a cute way.  Like, you look at it and you're like 'Is it ugly? Or is it cute?'"  Now, every time I put on the dress her voice runs through my head and I can't help but wonder, "IS it ugly?  Or is it cute?!?!"  I've never worn it in public because I can never decide, so I need your help!

What do you say?

1.  Is it UGLY or CUTE?  Do I toss it or should I keep it?
2.  If I keep it, what other styling suggestions do you have?  It's too short for me to wear without leggings, but I can't think of other ways to wear it.

Thanks, ladies!

I think it is CUTE! The way you styled it is just fine. Suggestions would be, skinny jeans in denim or colored denim, tuck it in as a shirt, colors could be orange, teal, red?

I LOVE the dress, but I would try pairing it with a brown belt and strappy platform sandals. Keep!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Keep it and wear exactly what you're wearing! :)

Audrey, I think your "ugly cute" dress is definitely a keeper. I think the colors are fabulous on you and I actually really like the print. I like Brenna's idea of a strappy platform. And, I'm still debating how I feel about jeans under dresses....

I think it's really cute! You've styled it wonderfully! Another way you could try it is with some sort of vest. (not a traditional tailored vest. Maybe a thick knit one, a fur one, or a military inspired vest)

If you showed us the dress just by itself, I probably would have said ugly. (sorry!) but I feel like you did a GREAT job styling it and I feel like the dress is super cute on you! I would wear that outfit!

It's definitely cute, and this way of styling it works. You could also wear it over skinny jeans or tuck it into a skirt. This is a keeper!

It's a cute dress, and I think you should keep it. You can try pairing this with some shorts if you're worried about the length, that way you don't have to worry about accidental flashes haha :) You can also wear chunky bangles with it.

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a generous comment on my blog. Following you now, I would love for you to follow me as well.

Cheers,

CUTE CUTE CUTE! KEEP KEEP KEEP! And I have dresses like that too, wherein every time that I put them on, something someone once said about it rolls around my head all day.

I think it's super cute and looks vintage! I like the way you styled it - you could also wear tights and high boots or skinny jeans and strappy shoes.

Love it - keep it!

totally keep it, it is very cute! I love the leggings and belt, but I'd add tan boots instead of black..it has too much black going on.

Thanks everyone! Helpful :) The boots and belt are actually brown, but they just came out black in the pics.

Oh, Audrey. You crack me up. I can see how that dress would be tricky, but I have to agree with the sharp ladies above me on styling advice.

I love it! It's very flattering through the neckline and shoulders! I think the all black is a little "heavy" though. I would try it with skinny jeans or pants but instead of boots I would do strappy sandals, platforms or cork wedges. Also try a brown belt! I think it looks great worn as a tunic and I would wear it that way.

So cute. I'd throw it on with dark skinny jeans, tall brown boots, belt and a little leather biker jacket or jean jacket. Such a funky pattern and so unique!

I dig it! I think that maybe it could be ugly but you've styled it so well and it fits wonderfully so it's definitely cute!

Audrey! The dress is definitely cute the way you're wearing it. Other ideas: Break-up the pattern with another layer perhaps a cropped denim vest or a solid colored scarf (belted) to create a vest look. Or try a chunkier statement necklace in a contrasting (pop) of color. If you want to make it a tad more funky (colored tights)instead of black?

"ugly cute"? What the heck was she talking about? It's just cute!

Totally cute. Reminds me of a Tory Burch dress/tunic actually. I would pair with dark skinny jeans and chocolate brown sky high ankle boots.

Lindsey @ The Savvy Speechie said...

Keep Keep! Oh so cute! I agree, this TOTALLY looks like some Tory Burch!

I think it is cute. Would be great with a black blazer or tucked into a pencil skirt. Tucking it into a skirt would let the sleeves shine they are super cute. :)

Lovely! And awesome how it's styled. I would also wear it with brown stockings and brown pumps

I actually really love it! I say it is definitely a keeper :)

CUTE!! Definitely cute!

The print feels modern but the sleeves feel a little retro. I do think you did a great job of styling it. I don't know your sewing skills, but if it were me, I would cut off the top and make it a skirt. That would add some length so you don't have to layer it and opens up more styling options. Just a thought. But you look awesome!
