Are These Jeans?

If you're curious why I look even more awkward in these photos than normal, it's because a bunch of people could see me from their bedroom windows as I took this picture and so we snapped 3 pictures as fast as possible and I pretended I was looking at the new deck flooring.

Whew, now that it's clear why I'm awkward, I got an email at work the other day with the title "REMEMBER STAFF, NO JEANS OR TENNIS SHOES". This was addressed to all of the teachers K-8, but I looked down at the pants I was wearing and got a little nervous...

I'm bending over hoping no one can see me, or maybe I should just call it a hip new pose

Are colored pants in the same category as jeans? My work isn't super formal, but should I stop wearing these?!

are they colored skinny jeans? i think since they are blue they look more like jeans but maybe you should ask someone at the school whether they are considered that?

I think those are okay if they're not jeans.

i think these are ok - they don't look as casual as jeans do. i expect they would even accept super dark wash trouser jeans too.

i would ask though - bc i'm a super paranoid person like that :)

They don't look like denim to me, so I say rock them to work for sure!

Too wrinkly!

I think they'd be fine in another color but the blue sure does make them look like jeans! It could be the picture quality though. They're kind of hard to see.

I tend to think anything of denim material is considered jeans. If it at all looks like jeans, you probably want to steer clear. Although, I work in an uber-professional field, so maybe I am too strict on the rules. :)

That's not to say I don't love those pants - 'cause I totally do!

to an older generation i think they'd look exactly like jeans. even though to us fashionistas we know they're totally not! :)

I wear pants like that on my "no Jeans" day. It'll work. If not, they'll tell you!!

They are not jeans, but they look about as casual as jeans so maybe your work would categorize them as not formal enough. I don't know, that's a tough one. I would just ask my boss!

They're not jeans. You're not breaking any rules. :)

They do look like jeans, so I guess you might be "told off"... unless you dress them up with a rather smart/serious-looking shirt.
But that's only a French point of view, from a teacher in a technical college where staff can wear absolutely what they want (and I can tell you that I have at least one female colleague who sometimes makes my eyeballs roll with her "hip" & "colorful" attire...) ;-)

I think the blue color makes them look too much like jeans. Cute pants, but I wouldn't chance it at work.

Here's the real question. If you flip them inside out, is the grain of the fabric diagonal? If it is, you have denim on your hands & you shouldn't wear them. They don't look like denim to me but I thought twill wasn't denim (I was discussing with my boss whether to buy these twill pants because I wasn't sure if they were work appropriate) so what do I know about things looking like denim and not being denim?

I think they look a little jean-ish, even though I know they are not really jeans. But the styling plus the colour plus the fabric makes them look "jean"-like. They are super cute though and I love the cobalt colour of them!

well i think technically they are jeans BUT they are much nicer looking than jeans and dressier! i'd say they're an okay...just go ask the email-er!

I think the "higher ups" might interpret these pants as jeans...but you do teach kindergarten right? I would think this would be okay.

I actually don't think they look like the "traditional" jeans. I always say that you can get away with it if you still look nice. This outfit (the way you have the pants styled) looks very nice and not too casual. I wear my red "jeans" to work and jeans are not allowed here either.

Either way you look great and I hide from my neighbors too. :)
