Last Cruise Question...maybe

Well, folks.  We have a cruise shoes winner.  I love it so much when there is one clear option that everyone prefers.  Now I know exactly what shoes to pack.  Also, I was so glad to see that the shoes that I wore with this dress for my friend's wedding were the shoes you picked!
Light gray it is.

Ok, but on to more cruise questions.

Almost a year ago I took these pictures:

I was wondering about the gold belt and gray shoe combination.  Sometimes all you need is to take a picture of something to find the answer.  After I took these pics I thought, nah, that doesn't work, so I never actually asked you guys about it.

But today I am wondering something else about this dress.

I have two questions

1. Is this dress ugly?  I can't really tell.

There was a time when 50% of the women in Provo, Utah owned this dress.  I'm serious.  And I was one of them.  I am pretty sure it was 2007 or 2008.  But, I haven't seen anyone wear it since then.

2.  If your answer is "no, it is not ugly"-- then, do you think it is appropriate for a formal night on the cruise?  Or is it more of a sun dress?

I stared at the photo of this dress long and hard until I eventually realised... I'm a Mormon. I literally cannot tell whether this dress is actually ugly or not :S

i don't think it is ugly at all, but the belt and shoes need to be changed for sure. maybe black strappy shoes?

i just want to say again that i LOVE that blue dress. it's stunning.

anyway, i LIKE this other dress! it's NOT ugly. it's super cute. but, i think that the pattern limits it to day-time wear. i think it's super cute, but more appropriate for daytime.

I agree with H lol

no it isn't ugly. yes it is formal night appropriate as long as you wear heels. honestly, i always end up being overdressed for formal nights on cruises and resorts. people just don't dress up anymore (in general.)

also i tagged you guys for a blog award: http://lachapstickfanatique.blogspot.com/2012/03/blog-award.html

I think it's adorable! But probably not formal enough for a formal night.

The dress is cute. It's a sundress as pictured, though, so for formal night I'd swap out the belt for a nice black one and go with some black pumps!

Not formal. Regardless of how you dress it up. Harsh but true. Of course it's still darling on you though.

I don't think the dress is ugly, but I also don't think the dress is formal attire appropriate. If you decide to wear it formally, put on some sleek high heels and a little shrug or shawl. That will make it more formal.

My experience was that "formal night" ended up being more like, "you're going to a nice wedding" night. People in floor length gowns looked silly to me, unfortunately. I think this dress is cute and would definitely work. I like someone elses suggestion of strappy black heels with it.

It's fine for a cruise formal night, you should see what SOME people wear (oh wait, you will:)). I agree that I would dress it up a little bit with black shoes and maybe a black shrug. But, if you don't want to bring more than one pair of dress shoes (that's how I am on a cruise), then it might be better to just find a different dress to work with the grey shoes.

i think the dress is really adorable for daytime wear. it'd be so fun to add an extra pop of color with the shoe.

i'm not a huge fan of the different colored belt/shoes. i'm a matchy-matchy kind of gal when it comes to accessories, but i don't think the combination is absolutely awful.

that navy blue dress with the grey shoes looks phenomenal, however. i hope you have an amazing time on your cruise :)

Love the dress. I actually kind of like the gray and gold together.

I think the dress can be formal with your hair, makeup done up and a high heel like the one in the pic. :)

Honestly, not a fan of the dress. I don't think it looks like a cruise dress. Love your other dress and I voted for the light gray as well. Hope you have an awesome trip!

I definitely like this dress and I think it can be made formal with different accessories. I liked someone's idea above for black strappy heels. I think really it can go either way though!

I think that the dress is really pretty! But maybe a little to casual for a formal night.

dress is cute but not formal wear. also i find the grey and tan offputting. normally i like mismatching the belt and shoes but in this case i find it odd. whenever i pull out a piece from years ago, i try to pair it with something very "now", whether it's in hair, accessories, or other pieces I pair it with. that way it doesn't look or feel like an old dress.

i really like the dress... i would pair it with a black belt and black closed toe pumps, so you don't take away from the dress. i don't think its quite dressy enough for formal night, though.

the dress is nice but you need a brown belt and red shoes

or keep the gold belt and red shoes...

I LOVE the dress!
I think some classy black heels would work better, though!

I think the dress is adorable and I agree with some nice patent black accessories (or red/gold) it would look great.
I think if you make the accessories formal it will look more dressed up. On a cruise you get all sorts and I know many people wear skirts and tops or sundresses for formal evenings so I think this will be just fine!

I like the dress as a sundress. Black heels would be cuter and maybe a different belt. :)

i think the dress is fine, but the full head to toe pattern isn't my personal style and since you said it was from 2007 I would reinvent it! my suggestion: cut it and make it a high wasted skirt. then the options could be endless with different colors/styles of shirts tucked in + different shoes + belt or no belt. just a thought?

I really like the dress, it has a fun vintage look to it.

love the dress. so not ugly. i'd wear it with navy belt and try it with the grey shoes. A navy belt will pick up the navy in the pattern and also will give you a tiny wasp waist because of the dark color. I'd say it's a casual evening dress. It's a bit dressier than daytime, but not dressy dressy.

happy cruise!
