READER SUBMISSION

We're excited to have Abbey from Along Abbey Road here at the Duplex today!  Abbey has been one of our e-roommates from the very start- right when we started this little blog.  She has helped us through many-a-style problems.  So let's help her out, yeah?  Oh, and you'll have to go check out her blog with her cute baby and her amazing polka dots.

Hello, roomies. I'm Abbey. Pleasure to meet you, my fellow fashionistas!

So, I have this style dilemma. It's called The Maxi Rut.

What's The Maxi Rut? Let me fill you in on the deets.

Basically, I have two sweaters I wear over my maxis. One is slightly fitted and one is slouchy, but that look is getting old and I am not an advocate of wearing tees underneath. My maxi called me up the other day and told me it was time to retire the sweaters or she was packing up and shipping out (gasp... the nerve!)

Enter the blazer.

I am not quite sure what to think about pairing a blazer over a maxi. Maybe it takes some getting used to. Maybe a relaxed-fitting boyfriend blazer would look better. Or maybe this is a good look. What are your thoughts? After all, roomies are the best people from whom to get the second opinion! Help a sista' out!

I like it! I think it adds nice structure. And such a fun print on the dress...

I think it looks really awesome :) It makes it a really coherent and lovely outfit :) I think the blazer works because of the colour.

I do think the blazer looks cute, personally I end up wearing a lot of cardis with maxi dresses to make them work appropriate.

Is it just a personal preference that you don't like t-shirts under maxi dresses? I have this same dress and wear a burn out under it during the summer (you can see it here http://www.lifeatitsfinest.com/2011/06/wiww-21.html) I have a pretty casual work dress code during the summer though, along with 100+ temps every day in Texas, so I try to stay away from layers! :)

I think it looks great! I know what you mean about the shirts under thin straps, looks fine on other people but on my it looks funny :)

I LOVE THIS LOOK! =)

i personally think that cardigans look best..the blazer makes it look more business vs a cardigan makes it soft and flowy and girly like a maxi is!

i think it works. p.s. where did you get your sandals?

I think you should retire your maxi. Sorry. I wasn't going to say anything and thought "maybe she really loves it and has a hard time wearing other stuff, or has weird knees or something". But then I looked at your blog and you have great legs. I think you look much better in shorter dress/skirt.

It works...good look.

I think the blazer would look much better with a scoop neck or bandeau maxi that didn't require an undershirt. There are too many things going on with the v-neck dress.
