April Fools' Day and A New Skirt

I hope you guys all had a fabulous April Fools' Day.  Anyone pull any great pranks?  If so, I would LOVE to hear about it in our comments.  Did you like our April Fools' Day post yesterday?  We seemed to think it was pretty amusing.  I don't know what was better-- having a man visit the Duplex or having a picture of Shape-Ups on the Duplex.  I think I might have to go with the Shape-Ups.

So, remember when I couldn't decide between two very identical skirts?  Well, I went with the majority and took back skirt #2 this past weekend.

And while I was at Marshalls returning the skirt, I just had to look around and see if there was anything interesting, right?  Right.  I accidentally found another maxi skirt.  Whoops.
When I saw the skirt, it seemed like a must have.  I loved the color and I am always a sucker for a quality piece item  for a great discount price.  But when I brought it home I was completely lost.  Something about the fit and the material has left me confused at how to style this.

Naturally, I googled the brand and style number to see how others have styled it.  The BCBG model styled it monochromatically.  You can see it here.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a top the right color to try a monochromatic look.  So, I tried two other options.  A solid and a pattern.  And I am not quite sure how I feel about either of them.

Solid

Pattern

Do you like the solid, pattern, or neither?

What would you guys put with this skirt?  I need help.

They both look GREAT! I hate the monochromatic look...what you did looks so much better.

i like both! i think the tee dresses it down and the stripes make it a bit more dressy.

i think the loose shirt will only work if you are a model. i felt like if i out those two pieces together i would look frumpy considering i am petit.

Actually, I like it both ways! The stripes look great with it and give a funner edge, but the solid gray top looks great for a casual laid back look.

Hey there!

I think both looks are really great! love the red color of the dress , very vibrant and perfect for spring.

I like both looks but if i had to choose I would go with the stripped shirt , I think the blue stripes compliment the vibrant red perfectly.

I really like the pattern. It's a lot more bold and makes the skirt POP! :)

I like both and I love the skirt. If you forced me to choose solid or pattern I would lean toward pattern, but don't put a gun to my head!

I prefer the solid, but not in grey. I think a bright white would look gorgeous for Summer, and a beige/tan might be more suited for Spring.

Oh and for April Fools, I put red food coloring in the milk jug. My family was SOOO surprised and they had NO clue what had happened. It was hilarious! I got it all captured in photos too! It's on Instagram :)

Cute skirt! Love the bright red color. I like the monochromatic look best- maybe try it with a crisp white shirt tucked in and add some fun jewelry and some pretty spring wedges :)

Gorgeous skirt! I have one that's almost the same color and I wear it with stripes and solids all the time. Keep it, and wear it just how you are wearing it.

I like the striped shirt and maxi skirt the best!

I like it with either shirt...if you stay with the gray I love the chunky necklace. I think the stripes look perfect with that skirt (plus you know I love navy and orange) :) Good find.

picou.ek said...

I like the stripes, but I wonder what the skirt would look like a little higher on your waist and with a belt. Just something to try.

Hi Monica - found you via The Pleated Poppy! Your skirt caught my eye because I have a skirt that's pretty much identical, same colour and length. I've worn it quite a few times on my blog if you wanted to have a look for ideas... if you go to the My Outfits tab at the top you'll see the skirt in the thumbnails (you can't miss it it's so bright)! I've worn it at least 5 times on the blog... it's my go-to all year round skirt.

I love yours with the grey tee, I'll remember that one for the summer. Really loving your style, your topknot looks fabulous on you - you have a new follower!

I think both striped and solid looked cute. I like the length, but maybe I would hem it to make it feel more wearable - so you could wear it with flats without dragging it all over. Or if you don't want to hem it, then just wear it higher, at your natural waist, and belt it. I love belting skirts as a way to break things up when the top is tucked in.

Love it with the striped top! I just saw someone on another blog pair red with coral, which is a very spring-like and feminine combination. It would look great with white (of course) and a scarf for your hair in a bright print. Not so sure about the gray tee but it may simply be the different color saturation of the two pieces. Gray seems to work better with a darker or more dull red, this is a poppy red! Have you considered a yellow top?
