Ask the Duplex: Apartment Series

This duplex has transitioned from me asking about fashion advice to me just asking about life advice... I hope you don't mind. But that's kind of what roommates are for, yeah?

Thanks to some really great tips by people on here, my house is starting to come together. We bought a couch after 9 months of searching and have 3 pictures on the wall, what progress! I'm now moving into my bedroom to start making it feel a little more homey, and so far I have my favorite print on the wall and our bedspread on the bed, and that's about all.

Our bedroom is shades of blue and I am feeling the need for more color.  I also desperately need drapes and so I feel like colorful drapes would be a perfect solution to my problem. I can't tell though if either of these options are good or if they're both hideous. (Keep in mind we're only going to be in this space for a year longer so I don't want to invest too much). What is your opinion?

Option 1: Good or hideous? Remember for a bedroom not a family room
Option 2: Good or hideous?
If you find both of these options frightening, do you have any suggestions?

Definitely the second one!

I like the second one...but it would be cool to hang some sheer white curtains on the insides with those bright bold panels to kind of soften them up a bit. Or if you went with option one, you could tea stain them to soften the white which would tone down the whole thing a bit.

The second one!

I like the first option... you can do a lot with those colors - little pops of red and that teal(ish) color in the room would be fun to tie into the colors in the drapes.

I like the first a lot better. It kind of depends on what your bed spread looks like too though

I love Emily's idea of putting white sheer curtains as the main window drapery and the bold panels on the side. If the bold patterned curtain covers the whole window, it will tint the light coming through making your walls more yellow/green. Also, I like the rings better than the gathered top. Although, curtains with straps that hang on the rod are my favorite look for a bedroom. Good luck! Great blog, Monica and Whitney! You guys are so fun!

I like the second one, but in all honesty it's your bedroom, go with what makes you happy. My bedroom is very dark and cozy, mostly black w/some ivory accents. I like black or navy cause it makes me think nighttime/sleepy time.

Good luck!

Option 1 looks a little Motel 6 to me. I am LOVING option 2 though.

No.2!

I like the 2nd one better and I agree that some sheers would be great with them. What colour is your duvet? That is really going to change how the room will look :)

LOVE #2. Both the print and overall style are great! And if they are not used as drapes in your next place you have loads of great fabric that can become pillows, quilt squares, or even a skirt (depending on the type of fabric). I am a proponent of the sheer in the middle too. Would love to see what you end up doing.

I love #2. Modern and good for the bedroom. #1 is not my style but if you like it go with it.

I think it depends on the colour of your walls as well as the colour of your bed clothes. Personally, I like the second one best - but it all depends on the rest of your stuff.....

#2 is.....well....#2. if you catch my drift. i'm lovin' #1 though, where did you find them?? are these from ikea? if you didn't know already, they have great (cheap) curtains.

Option #2! I love the yellow and blues.

Dork and I have recently been trying to make our apartment more "homey" as well. Hopefully I'll be posting about it soon!

i like #2 a lot. i've been wanting new curtains lately too. i like a lot of them at World Market but they're just on the side of too pricey for me.
