Faux Mother

I loved reading Whitney's post yesterday about her mom (and my second mom).  Wendy Sue is one fabulous lady and mother.

Speaking of mothers...I have been playing the role of a wanna-be-mother this past week.  Or maybe I should say, wanna-be-mother-but-I-have-no-idea-what-I'm-doing.  So, I need your help.  Desperately.

But before you give your advice of how to be a faux mother and what to do with children, I will explain...

Last week I finished finals and headed straight to Washington DC.  I was in a hurry because my amazing sister was about to give birth to twins!  A few hours after I arrived in DC my sister went into labor.  She left the house around 6:50 pm, drove about 40 minutes to the hospital (they live in the outskirts of DC), and then literally one hour after she left the house I received this picture from my brother-in-law.  It had to of been a record for the fastest natural birth of twins ever.

Aren't they precious?  Unfortunately, they came a little bit early.  So, my sister has been spending her days at the NICU to feed them every three hours.

Since my sister is at the NICU all day everyday and her husband is at work--that means I stay home and take care of the twins' older brothers.  Three older brothers, to be exact.

I spend my days trying to entertain a 6-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 20-month-old.  Trying is the key word here.

But, I need some ideas.  What do I do with three kids at home?  Do any of you guys have any activity ideas? Games? Anything?

I need help pretending to be a mother the next couple weeks...

Pinterest! It may just become your new best friend... find a playdoh recipe. My three kids are about those ages and they all love it. Good luck!

You can bring them outside and let them play on our swingset(we are next door) :) Playdough is always fun(easier to clean up if you do it outside), rent a new movie, board games. Let me know if you need any help!

I have smaller children of age 3,5 and 1,5,but to be honest I often call my sons friends to play at our house, because it is easier to me to handle 3 or more children then my children alone. Then my son is playing with his friends,I play with them often also, and my daughter is satisfied as well, she is hanging around. Now,when we are alone for all day long i always organize everything a day before, that way they wont be bored and everything will be easier. For example>i made them chalk paint which is made from food coloring, corn starch and water;I let them to draw at the walls as well, the rain wash it any way.Or we make a castle out of pillows and sheets.Or salt dough-made of salt and flour+a little water, then we bake it,color it and have sculptures.Or making music with items from the kitchen.Or just dance. :) Good luck with them! And be patient. ;)

Go to the park, play candy land, memory, chutes and ladders, color, movies, naps, fill a giant tupperware bin with water and put them in their swimsuits (it will entertain them for hours), or turn on a sprinkler, go to McDonalds or somewhere with a play place, stroll through Target and buy their popcorn, find an indoor playground at the mall, sidewalk chalk and bubbles, look up the local library online and go to their story time, take a walk around the neighborhood, check out a bunch of books and read them outside, make cookies or pizza together, have a picnic outside, make a fort out of blankets and sleep in it. Good luck!

Is there a "just dance" for the wii around the house? We love dance parties. Mine love to have picnic breakfast (or lunch or dinner) - just put a blanket down anywhere in the house except the table and sit and eat on it (that is if Rochelle has a good spot..just dont bring messy food or drinks). Also if you decide to cook/bake something, mine love to sit on the counter and help..putting the ingredients in, stirring, etc. Mine also love playing in the car, just pull the car in the garage, open the windows and take the keys/garage door opener out. Or sit in there with them and let them pretend to drive you somewhere. If you can stand to take them somewhere, fast food playlands are a favorite. If your extra bored, sometimes we go to a store and they love to sit and look at the toys..they'll do it for as long as you'll let them. Sprinklers...bath time after the sprinklers..let them run wild in their underware after bath time.

Or if you have a whole bunch of one item - cars, stuffed animals, magical creatures:) you can play "hide the cars". where you hide them, and then they go find them...that's another favorite..Sounds simple, but they love it.

Art is always a good time with kids, break out the paper, markers, paints, crayons and let them create. Being around DC myself there is great falls and other fun parks for them to run around at if it stops raining that is. Congrats on being an auntie again!

We do a lot of park days and bubbles around here. I like all the other ideas as well: forts, water parties, play doh, art projects, etc. Good luck!

It sounds like we all do the same things - I have 4 ages 10-2 so similar in ages. They love: playdoh, crafts of any kind (take them to Michaels and let them pick something out that they would love to build), lego (we do lego shows where they all build something cool and then we have an art show with each of their pieces as exhibits), painting, picnics (indoors or out), bike rides, park dates, beach days (take them anywhere there is sand and they will be entertained for HOURS), baking, especially when I just give them a portion of bun dough or cookie dough and they can make their own, bubbles, water balloon games/fights, sprinkler time, the library, scavenger hunts, etc, etc. I agree that PINTEREST will become your new best friend - they have AMAZING ideas on there. Some moms are seriously superheros!
Good luck and congrats to your sister, what a blessing!

Definitely take them outside. That way, they burn off energy, which makes bed time easier.
