Our first ever International Reader Submission! Say is 17 and dealing with the same fashion question that I've been trying to figure out for years... professional wear. We're so happy she contacted the duplex, we didn't know we had any readers in London, and such a cute one at that! Here's Say:
Hey everyone! I'm Say and I blog over at It's a Date :)
Right guys, I have a problem. On May 9th, I have an interview with one of the top accounting firms in London and I have no idea what to wear :(
As I am 17, I don't want to look like a kid in dress-up!
So... the two main options:
Option 1 is a Next suit that I found in the thrift store for £15! I was actually so amazed to find it and for it to be in my size! The jacket is even petite :)
Or..
My mother's monsoon dress with/without a grey H&M blazer. As my hair is short, I tend to lean towards more feminine outfits but I don't know if it is as professional!
So guys, any preference? Or any tips on how to style them better?!
Thanks beautiful roomates,
Say :)

I love the dress + blazer! You look hip & professional. Good luck!
LOVE THAT DRESS!!!!
I love the dress&blazer. It shows that you are professional, stylish, and still feminine. Good luck on your interview!
The one with the blazer and dress is better. It looks professional, and wearing blazer over a dress could mean you're in for a serious deal. You should choose the second one. :-)
I hope you get to visit my blog soon. :-)
Much love from Mystic Nymph.
You have a beautiful blog with so many inspiring posts! Congrats on your work!
Would you like to keep in touch following each other?
100% monsoon dress & h&m blazer. You look professional and feminine. Good luck!
that dress is lovely
the dress and blazer are my fave!!! you look very stylish and feminine while at the same time professional! good luck!!
I like both, but I think you look great in the dress/blazer. Just be sure to wear hosiery (don't you call them tights across the pond?), because showing up for an interview with bare legs is a big no-no. I work for a Big Four accounting firm here in the States, and have seen women get turned down for positions... the thing they all had in common? No hosiery!!
definitely the dress+blazer. very chic! best of luck on the interview!
It is a bit difficult to tell since the pants suit is not a full length photo.
However, I love the dress with the blazer! It is fabulous!
Definitely the dress WITH the blazer! The blazer makes it look more professional. Also to make it more professional looking I'd add some simple black pumps to the outfit. Good luck with the interview!
Agree with the majority, dress with blazer - so cute & totally acceptable for an interview!
Dress and Blazer is the winner for me. It's young and stylish! That's something I struggle with as well - so I completely understand!
The dress and blazer for sure! Its a winner!!
Definitely the dress, and definitely WITH the blazer! :)
Love the dress + blazer! You'll do great!
I've been wearing professional wear for years and I've been hiring people for about a year. I would definitely hire look no. 2 - dress+blazer. Good luck!
Both are so cute!! I can't help because I think both are really adorable.
I would choose the dress paired with the blazer. It looks professional but it's different enough that you won't blend in. Good luck on the interview!! :)
I would definitely go with the dress. I like it with or without the blazer.
definitely dress and blazer!
The dress for sure! With or without the blazer works. I think the suit makes you look a little too grown up.
Dress and Blazer definitely!! So cute!!
Dress with blazer--definitely! You look your age, but still professional and feminine and gorgeous :)
Dress + blazer !
Dress and blazer!!
xox
love the dress and blazer! and the pearls look so cute with it!
dress and blazer. but I don't like the pearls with it. I think you can do something younger that's still office appropriate. Something colorful would be nice, like a blue or purple.
DEFINITELY #2! But keep it young with punchy shoes and bold accessories! :)
Love love LOVE the dress!!
Dress & blazer for sure!
I agree with a previous poster that the dress/blazer combo is best, but definitely add some tights.
dress and blazer, 100%
dress and blazer!!!
Agree with the majority- dress with blazer for sure!
Add me to the dress and blazer list too! I adore it and you look super professional and cute in it!
dress and blazer!!
Love love love the dress and blazer! So cute and very professional!
Cute was definitely not the right word!
100% the dress and blazer. Th proportions are perfect to give you a professional, feminine silhouette. Not too tight, not too short, and perfectly modest. You look beautifully put together and competent. Pearls and a simple leather watch are right on the money. Just be sure you stick with closed toe pumps with a modest heel height (~7cm) in either black or nude!
200% option #2, the dress and blazer!! #1 is kinda frumpy but #2 is cute and stylish and i LOVE the dress!
I agree - dress with the blazer. I also agree that some fun jewelry and black heels are the way to go. You look great - so professional and beautiful!
